Cho's Press Conference 7/7 3:30PM

Post#1 » by amcoolio » Thu Jul 7, 2016 7:46 pm

I'll give updates....

- #1 goal this offseason was to sign Nic Batum

- Roy gives us much needed rim protection on the defensive end

- Sessions : "So much growth from this team since when it was the Bobcats...you got the Panthers playing good, Hornets playing good.. lots of excitement here lets keep it going"

- Adding MKG will be a big boost

- Adding Marco shores up our backcourt (this guy is staying)

3:46 : "Thrilled to get Belinelli for the 22nd pick, think hes a great fit. Tried to get him last season"

3:47 : Met with Batum at 12:01 on the 1st, we were waiting for him in a room. We weren't going to lose him, had to get it done that night

3:48 : Hibbert: I'll bring a lot to this team defensively, but I'm working on my offense too

3:49 : Sessions: Kemba is great, had an all-star season. Noticed it in the 4 games I played against him...hope to bring a lot to the table and can fill in that void

3:50 : Cho: Broken jaw will not affect Marco, watching him play in the qualifiers

3:52: Hibbert: I wanted to come here because the ball gets passed around a lot before someone shoots. Happy to be a part of this

Well, that was short. Basically nothing new

Cho admits that they not only tried to sign Marco Belinelli last year, but that they also tried to trade for him.

Cho on how he feels about the moves they’ve made: Nic was our number 1 priority. We got it done when 6-7 teams were willing to pay him Max.

He gushed about Marco the entire conference. Better be right. Says with Lee's contract cost, trading the 22 was a small price to pay for a good shooter and playmaker to "shore up the backcourt" (his words). Bad omen for Lamb

Didn't realize they tried to trade for Marco too (why didn't SAC do that?).

Yeah, we just really like Marco.

Sessions mentions how he noticed how tough it was for Wiz to slow down Kemba Walker and Jeremy Lin, how he played besides Wall last year.

Once again our media fails. The #1 question to ask.... "why do the deal before the draft starts as opposed to when you are on the clock to see who is there" isn't asked. Sure we would have gotten a bullshot answer but at least ask it.

Normally I'd agree, but I actually don't think that question was necessary. Cho was abnormally detailed about our interest in Belinelli. We clearly wanted him more than anyone that we thought could fall IMO and really wanted the security of his contract. I think spaceballer was spot on about us having a window to snag Belinelli and capitalizing on it.

Watch Belinelli be completely awesome, and we all look like idiots.

I trust Cho at this point. I lived through the Higgins and Bickerstaff eras.

Did anyone ask Cho about us having no one to fill in for MKG if he gets hurt?

"The biggest difference in our team from last year to this year is getting a rim protector." -Coach Cliff

Hard not to shake your head at that comment know we let Biz go for free when we probably could have locked him up long term for cheap last offseason.

Cliff really did not care for Biz.

wonder what this all means for lamb and daniels. Barring any injuries, it doesn't seem like they'll be getting many minutes this season. Having said that, team is very deep now.

Reoccurring themes: fit, character. Need to add from other pressers: spacing, fundamentals. Missing from the lexicon: potential, scoring, Ewing sweats a lot.

What this means is that Lamb is headed the way of Biz and that Daniels was a nice surprise but never more than a 12th man. Neither figure to impact the Hornets this season, so I'm with you...the eating will be light.

Didn't get to watch, but this from the write-up caught my attention:

"Cho said that the team is happy with the moves they have made so far, but added that they are looking to bring in one or two more players."

We can keep more than 15 in the off-season, though I can't imagine having more than 15 guaranteed deals. Harrison may be out.

Cho is probably still eyeing Humphries, who has eluded him more than Belinelli, but I'm still hoping for James Johnson.

What do you think of Gerald Green as a wing that can knockdown threes?

According to the Smitty in the Summer Tidbits thread, the team "is open to" retaining Tyler Hansbrough, though I do not imagine he wants to be stuck at the end of the bench once again. Last season's inactivity just about wrecked his NBA career. We already have Zeller, Williams, Hibbert, and Kaminsky as rotation players, plus Hawes, who could still be traded for a wing.
