Goodbye Time Warner Cable Arena, hello Spectrum Center.
The Charlotte Hornets will announce Wednesday that the team’s uptown home is changing its name following Charter Communications’ purchase in May of Time Warner Cable, Charlotte’s dominant cable provider.
Spectrum is Charter’s digital brand that provides TV, Internet and voice services.
The name change is slated to take place before the season starts at the end of October, Hornets President Fred Whitfield told the Observer. That’s earlier than when Time Warner Cable customers will notice a name change for their cable services, a switch that is expected to take place next year.
The new name will appear all over the arena, including on the new scoreboard, on the court, on exterior signage and in smaller spots like business cards and letterhead. It’s typically incumbent upon the sponsor to pay for such alterations.

Interesting. I'll never be able to think of this new name w/out thinking of the arena where the Sixers played back in the 80s.

due to a Mother I know who likes to go into great detail about her kids medical issues to every person she meets, I thought the Spectrum Center was going to be a place for the treatment of Autism.

Agreed about the 76ers/Flyers back at their old digs in Philly.
That being said, I dig it a lot. It could be so much worse and the old Time Warner Cable Arena was certainly a mouthful. I know we had shortened versions like the 'Cable Box' or the better homage to our heritage - The Hive. I'm cool with this though... The Spectrum is simple and can be shortened to something like 'The Spec'

I really like it though, even though it is a sponsored name it doesn't sound like it. That's a major plus to me.

Thanks to our bathroom laws we can nickname it the Speculum Center.
