so far...

Cody at 94
To be big, mobile, and active goes a long way in the modern NBA. Those underlying qualities alone make Zeller a helpful team defender—quick enough to cover the necessary ground and long enough to contest shots at the rim. Those strengths are mirrored, too, on offense through the speed of Zeller’s rolls and the strength of his finishes. Zeller doesn’t command the ball nor could he do all that much with it if he did. Most of his modest scoring comes by diving through open space and making himself available. Its an endeavor more of persistence than creativity, yet on balance it offers just the kind of dependable, straight-line action that many NBA offenses need. In lieu of the spectacular, Zeller operates fills a predictable lane with solid, two-way play. (Last year: Not ranked)

+ Balanced, unassuming contributor who doesn’t take anything off the table
+ Found his comfort zone as soon as his team gave him the space needed to succeed
– After three years in the league, Zeller has yet to show any reliable shooting range
– Most comfortable as an NBA player in a limited, tertiary role

Marvin at 65
Williams found a career-altering niche with the Hornets as a power forward who can stretch the floor and attack an overextended defense. The latter is critical; too many jump-shooting power forwards are rendered ineffective by committed coverage and hard closeouts. Williams made it a point to work on his floor game—if only for those particular moments when a defender might scramble past him in an effort to contest his shot. Defenders would have good reason to react in such exaggerated fashion. Not only did Williams finish as one of the top 15 three-point shooters in the league last season by percentage, he made 44.9% of his threes from the corners. Considering that more than half of his field goal attempts overall are now threes, Williams has earned that overcommittment. The counters are a burgeoning part of Williams’s game, though his perimeter shooting and always solid defense provide a stable core. (Last year: Not ranked)

+ An exceptionally low-turnover player—barely makes any mistakes
+ Defensive versatility makes him a legitimate option guarding both forward spots
– Positional shift has exacerbated his mediocre rebounding
– Best suited as a complement. Offensive game couldn’t comfortably scale into any other role

MKG got taken off
One of the best defenders in basketball has played just seven games since March 2015. For as much as we prize what Kidd-Gilchrist brings to the game—and in particular his work against top wing scorers—he was nudged out of Top 100 contention because of his inability to play significant minutes over an extended term. When gauging the best players in the league over the next season, specifically, the fact that MKG lost a season-plus to multiple major shoulder injuries (each with their own surgery) docks him. So, too, does the fact that Kidd-Gilchrist was never able to return to the floor after his latest surgery and establish any kind of flow on the court. We’ve talked ourselves into ranking Kidd-Gilchrist in the Top 100 in previous seasons despite his incredibly raw offensive game because his defense and rebounding were so special. His recent injury history, however, is so hefty a piece of evidence that it tips the balance out of his favor. — RM

Those rankings are pretty fair. MKG can't get anything more than an "Incomplete" for last season. Impossible to rank just 7 games. I'm still in shock that Marvin is ranked at 65 after like 10 years of being a top 200 player rather than top 70. And Cody just barely cracking the top 100 is roughly what I'd expect. This must mean that both Kemba and Nic are in the top 50 (like they should be).

Considering MKG would be a lock for top 100 if he played, our entire starting five is top 100 caliber. Wonder how many teams can actually say that. My first thought was Golden State (I imagine they'll have four players in the top 15) but I can't imagine any of their centers are there. I was going to say San Antonio but forgot that Duncan retired :( Maybe Atlanta with Scroeder, Baze, Korver, Millsap ,and Howard? Clippers definitely have four with CP3, Redick, Griffin, and Jordan, but SF is a hole. I think we're the only team with a starting five of top 100s.

Kemba, Batum and MKG are easily top50 for me, I understand the argument with Mike but when healthy he is there for sure, Marvin top100 and Cody can crack it but he is in the mix with a lot of people so probably 120 is safer.
The issue is with the bench, not sure you have another top200 player on the roster, although Belinelli if he bounces back, Sessions, and Kaminsky if he progresses properly, could make a case for it.

18 centers so far ranked ahead of Cody (19 if you include Nerlens). 30 more spots to reveal.

Remember when we used to average 1 player in the top 100? Now all 5 of our starters are (MKG certainly is a top 100 player when healthy).

Based on VORP the roster had 3 top 35 players last season and 8 top 200. If MKG is healthy I think CHA has an outside chance of 5 top 80 players in 2016-17.

Lamb and Frank should also realistically jump into the top 150 given their ages/experience and relatively small gap between 200 and 130-ish. Maybe Hibbert too depending on how he's utilized.

Screening was 750 minutes (311 players).

Kemba: 12
Marvin: 28
Batum: 32
Zeller: 108
Hawes: 185
Lamb: 189
Hibbert: 196
Frank: 198
Sessions: 228
Belinelli: 303

I'd put Kemba a little higher, but all the players in his range are fairly close so its hard to really complain. I definitely think he is better than Whiteside and Howard, though.

There are also a couple players I think are way too high, namely Lowry and Deandre Jordan. I think Lowry should be closer to Kemba's range. Id be fine with him still being ahead of Kemba, although I'm not really sure if he is actually better. I don't think DJ deserves to be ranked anywhere near where he is. He might be the most overrated player in the league now that he is considered "all-NBA" and a top 20 player.
