Belinelli makes Lamb expendable if you assume a healthy MKG and you are ok with Aaron Harrison being a regular part of our rotation in the event of injury to Batum or Belinelli.

Credible source, no new information. At face value Monroe for Lamb + Hawes is a good deal but the problem is Monroe's $18M player option. If exercised, Charlotte's 2017 FA would be effectively over without finding a taker for Monroe's contract.

There's also the opportunity cost of waiting or addressing a greater need...as in a lengthy combo guard.

Yeah, I think a lot of the value in this trade would be tied to whether or not Monroe exercises that option. If he doesn't it frees up a decent chunk of money a year earlier than expected.

I don't really like what it would mean for Cody/Hibbert minutes though. Neither of Roy, Cody or Monroe are ideal to play next to each other in a big lineup, so we'd have 3 centers expecting minutes, all 3 very different skills.

And even though I am not expecting much from Lamb, he does give us some much needed wing depth that might need to be addressed at some point with another trade or via D-league.

This trade only makes even a tiny bit of sense if the team is expecting Zeller to miss a significant portion of the season with his knee injury. There's no point in having three low-end starting centers.

Uconn bias aside I still hate this trade. Monroe is big Al without the post moves. Not to mention Marco is a scrub 38fg% last season and a whopping PER of 9.4. No way he should be penciled in as the backup SG over Lamb. I have watched plently of Piston games the past few years all Monroe did was stunt the growth of Drummond and as soon as he left they made the playoffs. He dont care about winning he just wants his little double double and hes happy. I dont want him coming here and taking minutes from Frank or Cody this trade is just HORRIBLE in every way.

Belinelli was one of the worst wings in the league last season and certainly far worse than Lamb. Harrison doesnt even look that good against D-League and summer league competition. I dont agree that Lamb is expendable.

I don't want to look at the prevalent playing style in today's NBA and declare it to be the only successful way of playing above .500. Smart organizations and coaches have always figured out how to zag when everyone else is zigging and there probably is some place for Greg Monroe in this league.

I just really don't want him to be our problem. 6'11, likes to play in the post, slow-footed on defense, too short and unathletic to be a center. That's a dinosaur of an NBA basketball player.

There might be a scenario where our switchy style and versatile, long guys in MKG, Batum and Marv make up for any deficiencies down low. Hell.. if we could defend with Al manning the middle, it might be possible with Monroe. If the trade occurred in 2006, we'd be outright winners as well.

But..... ugh... let just someone else figure it out. I'm not as big on Monroe's supposed skills as it is, even if they were contemporary and suitable for today's game.

I wouldn't like it although it sounds like its just a rumor from the summer. Less depth, less overall skills and length. Both of Hawes and Lamb can be serviceable at times and play in our 4 or 5 out system. I'm not even sure what we'd do with Monroe Hibbert and Zeller. It sounds like a cluster ****.

Hes almost as bad at defense as Big Al and he doesnt have post moves. You will need to bring a few energy drinks to the game if you plan on staying awake if we get Monroe.

Pretty much sums it up right there.

Value wise this trade would be good, but i dont think it makes sense with the roster we currently have. Id be down if we had retained Courtney Lee.

Id also be pissed if Cody was relegated to splitting backup minutes with Roy when hed actually still probably be our best center even with Monroe on the team.

They just want to get out of Hawes and Lambs contracts badly. Assuming Monroe would opt out, which is up in the air.

Also the amount of time I've spent arguing on the trade board over the offseason that this is a crap trade we won't do, it would be really annoying to have to eat crow

I'd rather see what Philly would want for Noel (preferred) or Okafor. I've never liked Monroe's game. I know Noel will be due for a huge contract but I'd like his fit on the team.

I'd rather to have Big Al than Greg Monroe on our team.
