I'd say it's a necessary move. He's helped build this team and deserves at least 1 more year in order to properly evaluate his decisions. The core he helped sign is locked up for the next few years, so to ditch him now would be an overreaction imo.

Yea exactly. Our roster is pretty firmly in place. We are a year removed from 48 wins and with better bench play and some luck in close games we are right back there.

We're not doing much of anything above .500 play unless Clifford somehow magically get a little more creative with his lineups and rotations.

Also we'd need somebody to at least average 18ppg alongside Kemba. I'm surprised that's so hard to find but somehow I believe that even if we did have that player that Clifford wouldn't play him in favor of a limited veteran that used to play for a championship team almost a decade ago.

I bet he traded the pick for Wes Matthews.

I don't believe Cho is the right guy for this job. I am a believer in getting the wrong person out instead of riding with them for too long. Having said that, unless you are ready to move Cliff out as well, it's not a practical solution right now. Cho knows the 1 year extension sets the table for a final evaluation. He may try to make bold moves as a result, but it takes two to tango. Not sure many teams are lining up to deal for our assets. MJ and Cliff also have a say. I expect Clifford to stick to his formula; is it the right one to take big next steps?

Great talent makes GM's and coaches look brilliant. I do think we've cultivated some talent and helped it grow. But this offseason needs to be a time for key changes. MKG is a bust for a #2 pick, but he can help another team with some intangibles. Dealing him and assets for a starter who can shoot and score is imperative. Batum has value but he's got to step up his consistency. We must, MUST, absolutely nail our draft pick. Replacing our woeful bench with quality depth is vital.

Lots of tall tasks here, but in my mind there is no small tweak way to get where we need to be. Big results will require luck, skill in evaluation/drafting, and trading prowess.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I'm legit worried about this possibility. It just seems so in line with some of our past moves. It would be very similar to the Batum trade, but bad because we wouldn't be waiting to evaluate what the pick got us (Batum move was justified because of how bad we learned that Vonleh was). So, it would basically be like combining the Batum trade with the awfulness of the Marco trade.

It would be like the Batum trade if we got a year to watch the prospect in our system before deciding to trade him because he was like five years from belonging in an NBA rotation.

We aren't trading the pick, doesn't fit our MO at all.

Too early for the "MKG Is a bust" narrative.

If he develops a 3 point shot he's a great player.

Guys like mkg value goes up in the playoffs when you need key stops against top scorers.

Remember how lebron was able to lock down Derrick Rose during his mvp season in the playoffs? Lebron is actually a reasonable defensive comp for what MKG is capable of. We saw how his length really bothers guys like Derozan.

He showed capability to shoot the 3 last season and if you scratch his 2015-2016 lost season due to the torn labrum he's averaging nearly 70 games over four years as a high energy guy.

Ultimately he's more valuable as a power forward in this league but it appears we wanted to see him stay healthy for a full year.

An offseason of 3pt shooting instead of rehab will do him a world of good.

It wasn't long ago that I remember Cho signed Brian Roberts to be our immediate and primary backup PG. It didn't take a rocket scientist to know that wasn't going to work out well esp. for a team trying to improve on their performance following a playoff appearance. But I guess MJ forced Cho's hand to sign Roberts since that's the excuse people like to use for him on every personnel decision that go sour.
