I think he replaces the big man coach role that Ewing is leaving.
Can't really say much about him, since he was one of those back bench coaches without much visibility. He was the least experienced of the 8 assistants under Atkinson, since everyone else had coached in the NBA before except him (Batiste worked for the D-league affiliate of the Cavs prior to the Nets).

Probably not. The Nets have 8 assistants, and they may be behind the Pistons. And that is in addition to a brand new performance team headed by Zach Weatherford poached from the U.S. Naval Special Warfare Command (he used to be in charge of training Navy SEALs), who aren't counted amongst the 8 assistants.

Speaking of invisible assistant coaches... It's strange that we never hear a word about Bob Weiss on the Hornets staff. He is never interviewed or discussed, but he's, by far, the most experienced of the bunch. I've always wondered what his day-to-day duties include.

If you haven't read seven seconds or less (seriously, what the hell is wrong with you) it gives nice insight into the roles of various asst coaches.
I love behind the scenes nba books like that.
The one on the '92-'93 hornets is a great read too. Read that as a kid , not sure how it holds up but definitely worth revisiting

I've read both. Been waiting 25 years for Bonnell to write another behind the scenes books.

He's kept around just in case we ever need to pass someone off as Bernie Sanders
