Harry Giles - C - 6'10' - Duke

Post#1 » by TheKingofSting » Wed May 17, 2017 5:50 am

The mystery man. Once the most talented player in the draft, he has had multiple knee surgeries that have made his future cloudy.

HEIGHT: 6'10.5"
WEIGHT: 232 lbs
AGE: 19.1
POSITION: C
COLLEGE: Duke

He is to big of a risk, but if we were to work out a traded with Portland for 15, and 26 I would definitely take him with the latter pick. He is to big of risk to take in the lottery. He could possibly come back strong and have a long career, but how realistic is that? Most likely he has a few good years here and there, but is chronically plagued with injuries.

I'll pass judgment once his medicals come out.

Him getting cleared medically and dropping to us is a dream come true. The best prospect from NC since John Wall.

Giles is simply too big of a risk at this point for a GM on the final year of his contract.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

No one we pick at 11 is going to save Cho's job. If he's going to turn things around for next season it's going to be via the trade market.

If Giles' knees aren't busted you take this risk every time. Taking mediocre players with limited upside will get you nowhere.

The other guys I would take ahead of Giles - Ntilikina and Anunoby - will both be off the board when we draft. I think the Kings will trade 10 for Rubio after Fox is picked by Philly (they'll draft whoever out of Tatum/Jackson that PHX passes on).

I would be shocked if OG goes top 10.

I wouldn't, he's a prime trade up target. Denver, Portland, and Minnesota will all be interested. Sacramento would be smart to draft him at 10 if they pick Tatum/Jackson at 5. They'd get good trade offers from all three.

I said it in the other thread but I do not think this guy has a pro caliber frame. Bad Knees and he has no hips/butt, along with the no college production, too many red flags to take at 11.

If his knees check out I'm fine with drafting him. Charlotte's legendary medical staff will keep him healthy, I'm sure.

In the mold of Brandon Roy. He will look fantastic for a few years until the NBA grind finishes off his knees.

While nothing is ever a sure thing about the draft I have not seen one mock that has had OG any higher than 12. You seem to forget this is considered to be one of the deepest drafts in years.

I'm all for taking him if he clears medicals and one of the big prospects doesn't fall.

Either Miami or Denver will take him and he'll become a stud. Not sure about Miami but Denver definitely can wait on him until Faried's contract is up.

I don't think he is as good as he looked on high school mix tapes against short kids. He got by on being very athletic for a pretty big guy, not as a terrific shooter or ball handler. The surgeries may have stolen the athleticism and he is just not that big for a pro inside player. Maybe I am wrong but his inability to even play much for Duke or do anything special when he did play is not a great sign.

Nothing in that mixtape warrants taking a guy who is damaged goods. He looks like a slightly more polished Mike Bell. (Who? Exactly.) Pass.

Best prospect from NC since brandon ingram in my opinion

Would much rather take the mystery kid from Kentucky.

Giles sucked at duke. He's going pro because if he bombed next year he wasn't getting drafted

What makes Giles a better prospect than Christian Wood?

This.

I feel for the dude, so I hope someone takes him in the 1st round so he can get at least one guaranteed payday. It just better not be us.

Giles is fools gold. It's one thing to take a swing for the fences, but medical warnings take him into the danger zone.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.
