I guess it's unlikely Dennis Smith of NC State falls to #11. But there's nothing wrong with a 6'2" Point Guard who can play. Besides we need a solid back-up to Kemba.

Hes going to be a really good player. Would be a steal at 11. Had to have been a bitch to play at NC State where they fired their coach midseason and he stayed on to coach even though he was canned.

If Marbury came up in this era with the emphasis on long range shooting, he'd be better than Lillard. I'm talking respective eras, Marbury was top 5 PG convo material for most of his prime, Lillard is great but still just one of many great guards and therefor gets snubbed at All-Star games a lot.

This would be an amazing pick at 11, I think he has all star potential and I think he has a ridiculous ceiling. I think his ceiling is as high as Ball's and definitely Fox's. He'd instantly fill our need of a backup PG and playmaking. Would be a homerun to get a talent like this at 11

This kid is way way too skilled to drop till 11 but he is an easy selection if available

talent wise I hear him compared to Chris Paul. I'd like to hear more about his personality. he supposedly went to State to lead his own team. Excuses abound. Was teamed with non-shooters and a couple bigs who clogged the lane. Coach fired. A guy like Chris Paul would have risen above that in the college ranks, led his team to wins, saved the coaches job, right? Sounds like this kid ended up in a bad environment but what role did he play in it, supposedly quitting, giving up at times?

And, to me, the almost bigger question, is he an Alpha Dog type who is going to come in and clash with instead of compliment Kemba? Those who know more about him please weigh in.

He had a lot of non-shooters that killed his floor spacing. Maverick Rowan was the only decent shooter (and his shot selection is questionable at best) with Terry Henderson who was a transfer aka new guy and he had a really inconsistent shooting season. Everybody else on State couldn't hit the broad side of a barn except maybe Malik Abu who showed a much improved mid-range jumper (still not quite 2nd option worthy) and maybe Yurtseven but he fouled so often that he'd make Biyombo blush.

That being said, the biggest problem was that Gottfried is a terrible coach. He's a great recruiter but really lousy x's and o's. State played a predictable motion offense that needed offensively challenged big men to contribute more than they were capable and often had DSJ standing off the ball for no reason while Henderson or Rowan struggled to shake defenders. DSJ was a terror in the high pick and roll and mind-bogglingly Gottfried hardly utilized it. DSJ didn't pout, the team didn't quit, they just kept playing inept ball because they were coached by an inept coach and management finally saw that Gottfried wasn't up to snuff, with or without good recruiting classes and canned him, rightly so.

Personality wise DSJ is very competitive. He didn't leave Fayetteville to play for a super team like Harry Giles (one of his best friends no less) partly due to this probably. I've heard that he picked State over big schools like Duke and Carolina because he or his family are State fans but also he probably didn't have the grades for Duke and the scandal of UNC's academics scared him off. He is known for having a good work ethic and constantly studies tape of himself on defense to improve. The only real criticism you can have about his leadership qualities is that as a freshman he wasn't a really vocal leader. It's funny that Fultz is a consensus number one pick when his team also sucked hard and he was just as much an empty stat padder and even sat out games because of "injury" but no one criticizes his heart (DSJ is definitely not a "rester"). I'm not saying DSJ is just as good as Fultz b/c Fultz has a much better physical profile but the gulf is not as wide as people think. DSJ also shot much better FT% which to me speaks better of shooting ability than one isolated season of 3pt%.

I will say that although I hate Chris Paul DSJ is no Chris Paul. CP3 is a way, way, way more natural PG whereas DSJ is more a scoring guard. DSJ's playmaking is underrated (more natural than Kemba coming into the league) but he's not going to lead a team right away. His shooting isn't Mudiay bad but I can see him having trouble starting right away like Mudiay or Elf Payton if he has to lead a team with bad shooters. I don't think he'd clash with any team, he's a consummate teammate from what I've seen. Skill-set wise I think it's likely that someone more complementary, Cliff's system considered, will be available at 11 (like Maarkkenan) but DSJ would still be a great pickup considering his ceiling and how bad our backup PG situation is.

I am terrified that he gets drafted by the Kings, it would be too fitting.

Another point in terms of how bad a coach Gottfried was, guys like Rodney Purvis and the Martin twins transferring was becoming too frequent.

That is not true. He wanted to go to Duke and form a super team with Tatum and Giles but did not qualify academically to get into Duke University, so he had to go to another college or overseas.

Thats just the word from guys within the program. Im an alum i still talk to some people. They said the chemistry was the worst theyd seen by far in their 20 years with the school.

DSJ had already announced if we made the NIT he would not be playing in it.
