I was never a Malik doubter and I'm not saying this is a huge deal, but it's not meaningless that he's missing these games. This is a dude that needs all the court time he can get.

There’s a lot of extreme reactions right now. Worse than the Hayward and George injuries? Fractured thumb guys. Yes it blows that he’s missing important developmental time, but he will be back in time for training camp and the regular season. This is a set back but it could be way worse.

We have bad luck man. We are like the guys who the really husky girl walks up too and says you are going to be my man and there is nothing you can do about it. (that kinda happened to me a couple of times). Thank goodness it's just his thumb. Look on the bright side him not playing means he cant injure anything meaningful

I think the coaching staff said, "Malik... you did so good your first game, why don't you take a seat for the rest of Summer League. We need to get the other guys some work. The media will probably ask about this though. Let's just tell everyone uhh... what was that fake injury Lebron made up as an excuse after the fact for losing the Finals?... broken hand?... that's fine, a broken hand."

In my mind, that's how it went.
Who I woulda took:
2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: Porter Jr | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi

Yep, that one game gave him enough trade value for us to pull him out real quick. We'll field some offers and see if we can get anyone to bite.

Lamb is the starter beside Kemba in our backcourt, so it's not like we lost a starter for the season. 6-8 weeks sucks, but in reality, it's the Vegas SL and practice time from now until September. He will be back in time for training camp and it's a finger, not like an ACL or torn pec.

I do wish Monk had the time to really boost his game, but let's also be real about who Monk is.... confidence and assertiveness was never a question with him...which, IMO, is what SL is for. I'll take this as my team's SL/offseason injury over something more serious.

It frees up looks for Miles Bridges, Graham and Bacon. Play calls were focused on Monk and his teammates were looking to him. This is gonna force them to find their own offense. I'll be watching Bridges.

And let's be honest. Monk is on a different level than everyone in summer league. He needs to learn the system but I'm not sure how much he'd benefit from domination. It's not a realistic environment for him. And man, Tony Parker is gonna lead his unit. He's going to enjoy all kinds of freedom off the ball. He's gonna break out big. He might nudge Lamb out by season's end and I expect Lamb to perform at a high level as the #2 scorer.

Yeah, Monk was a step above his competition in SL. It's cool for us to see him make it rain on these young guys, but it's probably not improving him all that much. Dude was already stupid confident even when his shot looked awful. The real prob for him was always physical defense throwing him off (or making him incapable of finishing in the lane) and his own issues with matador defense. SL is a defense-free zone, so it wasn't really testing his weaknesses.

As long as he's healthy for training camp it ought to be alright.

Do we have a Kawhi situation on our hands? Except I guess in reverse.

How hard is it to diagnose a broken thumb?

I just assumed it was a bs injury, or at least just "major" enough that it wasn't worth the risk for him to keep playing. Easier to pull him out with a broken thumb vs. a jammed finger or whatever.

He's clearly above the competition in Vegas, anyway.

In other news, in a new poll UNLV med school ranked #449, placing them 1 spot higher than the Hornets medical staff from the last 3 years.

His thumb was 'broken' wink* wink*

There is precedence for the team doing this sort of thing. MKG dominated his first summer league game as well and the team then said he tore a muscle and sat him for the rest of the games.

Why would a team fake SL news though? Can't they just not play guys? I mean Donovan Mitchell is just chilling on Utah's bench, they don't make up an injury about him?

Possibly related question - how do summer league guys get paid? Do guys like Monk and Bacon get extra pay for playing on the summer league team?

How many questions could I possibly include in a post? Is this a record?

LOL @ conspiracy summer league injuries. Playing would have been good for Monk.
