Instead of tanking, let's trade away our draft picks

Post#1 » by 316Hornets » Sat Dec 9, 2017 6:51 pm

We can't pick right in the draft anyway with MJ meddling with the picks.

Trade our draft pick for next year right now while it looks so nice. If we can move Batum with our next year 1st and 2nd, then we should do it.

I've actually considered this idea a few times... but there are 5 big names in the draft... i think we just gotta let the years slide off those deals while we keep drafting.

Marv offers positive value and Dwight will be expiring next year. So it's really just the Batum deal that we need to figure out. I think we're better off letting him heal up over the offseason and jsut hoping he reclaims some of his value. Realistically, it can't go much lower than it is right now.

I understand the thought process, but it's probably a bad idea.

The Warriors were absolutely legendary for experiencing decades of bad draft picks, then they hit on about four in a row and they're set for years. Same with the (old) Sonics, total garbage at drafting for like 15 yrs, then the franchise hits Durant/Westbrook/Harden/Ibaka. The draft always gives teams, especially small market teams, the best chance of acquiring a meaningful breakthrough player. I don't think we should let our past failures prevent us from making future picks.

Yeah... No way Memphis will do that to their fan base, given how small their market is.

They have a worse record than us and are competing in the West. This is a perfect time for a team like that to stock up on draft picks. And, if that team is going to be moving soon anyway, why not start building for the future now.

The logic is nice and all, but I don't think they'd do that while also acquiring Batum and Howard. That strikes me as a deal they would rather not make.

let's not do that. Do you think MJ was the reason we picked Frank Kaminsky? If we're going to nuke the roster or make drastic changes, the entire front office and coaching staff needs to be cleared out for a group that's going to play late-2010s basketball and build a team around its philosophies. This whole inside-out offense and defend the paint at the expense of the perimeter thing isn't going to work. I don't think our drafting issues are that awful. We just tanked in all the wrong years. I think the only really major misses are Frank over Devin Booker (and remember that Winslow was the guy we were supposed to draft and he hasn't done **** either) and MKG over Beal/Drummond (all-star caliber players vs a very capable starter but with holes in his game that haven't been patched 5.5 years into his career). I've been wrong a lot about this team over the years, but I know this team is **** if they actually trade away picks to try and add to this mess. Unless another team's star flames out of his current team and we can acquire him for Batum + our pick or something, it's probably time to think about tearing this down if nothing changes.

I dont think we are as bad at drafting as most think.

kemba was obviously a great pick.
biz was bad, but also misused here.
MKG was obvious, but we didn't see the injuries coming.
Zeller was a good pick (people point at #4, but that draft sucked. the best players are Giannis, #15 and Gobert in the 20's)
Frank was dumb, BOOKER :( :(
Monk was also obvious.
Vonleh was obvious.

Our problem is we DONT tank, we get stuck in that 8-11 range when we suck for the season but keep trying to claw for the 8 seed. (just outside the top guys) and end up picking a mediocre prospect or whoever drops (who usually drop for a reason).

Listened to WOJs most recent podcast and he and Givony were talking about Donovan Mitchell at one point and one of them mentioned that there was a camp in our FO that wanted to draft him over Monk. They didnt give any specifics, but i thought it was interesting.

We could definitely use Mitchell right now instead of Monk giving us absolutely nothing. But I'm still hopeful Monk turns into Rambo one day.

Lol... the vitriol for MCW around here is perplexing. The guy stinks, no question. But he's no Monk. Monk is that next level stink.

I'd argue Vonleh was worse

Vonleh is as miserable offensively as Monk is defensively. That is for certain.

Vonleh has been better than Nic this season. Just wait until he is averaging 12/12 on solid efficiency and we trade a 1st with Nic to dump him.

EDIT: He would probably be our 4th best big if he was here ( after Dwight,Cody and Marv)
