Charlotte has received permission to speak with Philadelphia 76ers VP of Player Personnel Marc Eversley, Houston Rockets Vice President of Basketball Operations Gersson Rosas and Miami Heat assistant general manager Adam Simon, league sources told ESPN.

Charlotte has directly registered its interested with Kupchak, league sources said. Kupchak has a longstanding relationship with owner Michael Jordan, with whom he shares University of North Carolina ties.

Kupchak won two NBA championships 2009 and 2010 as Lakers GM. He was dismissed a year ago, replaced with Magic Johnson.

Whichever one is more likely to fire Clifford so I’m leaning towards Gersson Rosas based on the way they did Kevin Mchale.

He got the Van Gundy and Dwight connection.

Wouldn't that lessen the chances of him firing Clifford?

Maybe but maybe not. You’d have to imagine that he’s seen enough of Dwight in Houston to stray far away from him. Also you’d have to imagine that Morey has taught him to prioritize shooting - MKG better get his life.

It does lessens the chances that he’ll fire Clifford immediately but I think he’d still fire him by midseason once he see how different we play basketball to what he’s used to watching in Houston.

I don’t think any of these candidates should be taken seriously if they cannot see the need to start fresh. Think...would you tie your success to this guy after this many years of mediocrity?

I wholeheartedly agree but there has to be a viable head coaching candidate available that’s interested in the Hornets’ job. If not we can’t just blindly swing and commit to any fresh face that’s willing to accept the gig. That’s likely how Clifford gets to finish the one year on his contract where it’s not necessarily because he deserve it but because there weren’t any options that undoubtedly toppled what he brought to the table. And I seriously doubt any coach that’s worth a damn would sign a 1-year deal.

Clifford will just bide GM Kupchak and assistant GM Buzz Peterson time to pluck Wes Miller away from UNCG.

any of them are better than Buzz. preferably either the Rockets guy or the Miami guy.

Would have to think Rosas is the best candidate. I feel like we would definitely see a pretty good revamp in the offseason from him and (hopefully) a new coach

I just can't shake the feeling that this "search" is window dressing and Kupchak has the job locked up.

as per the link vanderbilt grad posted, would be great to have a GM who knows Morey's modern game via HOU; Rosas balked at working with Cuban what will he think of working for MJ? https://www.netsdaily.com/2016/1/29/10866304/meet-gersson-rosas-brooklyn-nets-gm-candidate

I like the idea of someone like Simon emphasis on young talent and player development

interesting that Eversley road to NBA mgmt went through Nike, maybe thats a relationship with MJ? I'm not a huge Colangelo fan

The Panthers' GM "search"/sham has made me rather pessimistic that this is anything other than a show before hiring Kupchak.

To be clear he wouldn't be Hurney-bad, but we need some new blood not a retread.

Neither Marc Eversley of the Sixers or Adam Simon of the Heat interest me too much.

When I think of the Sixers I don’t feel like they’ve done a great job of filling out the roster alongside Embiid, Simmons, and Saric without mentioning how they’ve failed with multiple high draft picks like Noel and Okafor. I would mention MCW but I honestly think the smartest thing they did was trade him while his stock was high which ended up being the draft pick that helped them land #1 overall Markelle Fultz.

And when I think of the Heat I don’t really see a good roster like that either. I think we have a much better team than the Heat. The Heat just got a much better coach in Spoelstra and Riley looming around couldn’t be anything but helpful.

I know neither of Eversley or Simon should be held accountable of what their overseer has done but I just don’t find the intrigue on the surface. However both may be great in their own right.

Did Eversley work under Hinkie or was he a new part coming in of the FO change the Sixers made?

No, he didn’t work under Hinkie. He came with Colangelo the offseason they wisely drafted Simmons over Ingram. That’s why I mentioned that I don’t feel like they’ve filled out the roster around Embiid, Simmons, and Saric well. A lot of misses on players like Justin Anderson, Trevor Booker, Amir Johnson, Marco Belinelli, and etc.

I guess I rank them in order of my preference:

1. Rosas - It's hard to argue the Rockets success and if he has been learning under Morey then he will value analytics and as a bonus Clifford wouldn't be around long.

2. Simon - Substitute Riley for Morey above and we MUST upgrade our player development system. (Do we even have one?) I also think he'd not put up with Clifford long.

3. Kupchak - He is above average at drafting and has had big time success in the past. My only question(s) are: 1. Will he stand up to MJ? 2. Will he get rid of Clifford ASAP? Part of me wonders if he wouldn't give him a contract extension. :banghead:

4. Eversley - Now that I know he didn't have anything to do with The Process I'm basically only even ranking him because he's on the candidates list.
