Re: Who is your best Charlotte player all-time?
Bonnell’s article was good and thought provoking. I still believe Rice has a smidgen of an edge on Kemba, but that will be erased if Kemba has a similar season next year. Rice was an absolute assasin. He hit so many huge shots and carried this team to some big seasons. Yes he was not a leader but he took charge on the court. Kemba has been up and down, but finally got better last season, and has raised his game another complete level this year. He will pass Rice very soon.
The next spot, to me, goes to Alonzo. Mourning was so darn good for all the years he was here. Tremendous competitor, rebounder, shot blocker. Huge mistake by Spencer Stolpen to pay LJ monster money that kept us from paying Alonzo. If we had kept him we wouldn’t have had Rice but he would have thrived here. Next, I want to put LJ for everything he was with this team before he hurt his back and never quite the same. We knew he had a back issue when signing his unnecessary league-leading contract. Fatal flaw.
I suppose I put Baron Davis next. He did a lot for this team in our next best era. Right behind him is Dell Curry, Muggsy, and Wallace.

I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Its Kemba.
But I'll still echo an old sentiment (ancient and forgotten) that Gerald Wallace should not only be on a list like that but have his jersey retired. Crash was so great for the franchise and the city while we were still the Bobcats. Would be an awesome gesture imo

Re: Who is your best Charlotte player all-time?
Kemba is absolutely #1. I don't really see an argument for anyone else now. He's individually done more than any other player in franchise history in far less time than Dell, and has stuck with the franchise through everything without even a complaint or a hint that he's looking elsewhere. He'll likely be the franchise leader in points within the next week, doing so in at least 180 less games than Dell, and is near the top of every relevant statistic. Our lack of Ws in his era have very little to do with him and should not be held against him, we haven't had a conference finals appearance in any era, so it's largely irrelevant in regards to his ranking as a Hornet.
Even if this were to be his last season here (which I don't even want to think about), he's done more than enough over the last 7 years, and mainly the last 3, to cement himself as the greatest Hornet of all time, and 100% deserves his jersey in the rafters.

Re: Who is your best Charlotte player all-time?
Kemba #1, not even close.
Rice and Zo had much of their glory in Miami, LJ's back prevented him from being an all time great. Muggsy and Dell for me aren't even in the conversation.
I'll even entertain Gerald Wallace being #2.

Re: Who is your best Charlotte player all-time?
In terms of overall accomplishments with this franchise, at this point Kemba would be number 1. In terms of who had probably the best individual season in franchise history that would go to Rice. In terms of who I believe was the most talented player in the history of the franchise, that would go to Larry Johnson. I still believe pre-injury Larry Johnson is the closest this franchise has ever come to having a true franchise level Superstar that could have taken us to the NBA finals as the best player on the team. Sadly we only really got to see Larry Johnson for a few years before he wrecked that back. I guess the wild card and all of this would be Alonzo Mourning. Best of the rest would be Baron Davis, Gerald Wallace, Jamal Mashburn and Eddie Jones.

I was wondering if Mash and Jones were going to crack a mention. Mason lead this team well for a bit also.
Side note, what’s with Charlotte trading all their good players to Miami?

It was that way forever. Charlotte, New York and Miami always seemed to shuffle players around for some reason.
Mash could've been more remarkable if he hadn't had that weird vertigo thing right when he was in his prime. Mase is one of my all-time favorite Hornets (one of the 1st bigs I ever saw with serious handles, inspirational) but he wasn't really a franchise level talent, more like an elite level role player. I never liked Eddie Jones, highly overrated player. He was that era's version of Big Al or Dwight, a name player that got paid but was falsely credited for team success. He didn't really move the needle.
CONTROVERSIAL HOT TAKE ALERT:
I don't really consider Kemba's achievements all that impressive, especially scoring records. Not to knock Kemba but this era of NBA is really too video game-esque. There's so much scoring and triple-double stuff that it's like when the baseball was juiced. I'm more impressed by Hornet's scoring records when defense was played.
All that said, Kemba is probably the GOAT Charlotte player in terms of being a Charlotte lifer. LJ's back, Zo leaving, Rice arguably a better Heat, etc. Kemba is clearly above Dell and Muggsy and I'd put Crash second. As far as best to put on a Charlotte uniform though (and still have game left unlike Robert Parrish) I still think LJ, Zo, Rice and Baron Davis were greater talents than Kemba.

Some great posts here, and it prompted me to search for great seasons.

2. Anthony Mason (1996-97)
3. Glen Rice (1996-97)
4. Larry Johnson (1995-96)
5. Eddie Jones (1999-00)
6. Kemba Walker (2015-16)
Mase was the name that really stood out to me. Didn't expect that at all.
