SGA could go really early or slide into the mid-teens. He has quite a bit of range IMHO. It will be interesting to see what happens on draft day.

Yea in my opinion, he’s the best fit next to Monk

I think that SGA could easily play alongside either Monk or Kemba. His potential fit with both guys is off the chart. He really seems to just 'get it' too and plays with solid BBIQ.

He can shoot though. While it was a low total he shot 40% from three and hit 81% from the free throw line. I don't think his shot is broken at all he just didn't take a ton of shots from range.

I like his size and his numbers look good on paper for his freshman year. When I watch his tape I am not blown away.

He doesn’t look particularly explosive for a point guard. Doesn’t blow past people off the dribble or elevate at the rim like I would like to see. He does a really good job of using his size to his advantage.

I worry once he isn’t getting guarded by 5’10” players will he look as good. College point guards are tiny and often times teams play with only 1-2 guys over 6’6’’ at any time. He scores in a way that exposes this size advantage in the half court.

His shooting percentage are good but he only attempted 1.5 threes a game or 57 for the year. That’s a really small sample size in today’s game and it’s at a shorter distance. His stroke doesn’t look super awesome either so it’s not a given to me he will be a good shooter.

Lastly, his playmaking seems okay at 5.1 assists per game but don’t see him making extremely tough passes or reads. Does a decent job in Kentucky’s toss the lob system but don’t think he grades out as a great passer.

What position does he play? If he can’t play the 1 at the nba level he doesn’t do anything for me because he will not have that size advantage and athletically he doesn’t stand out. Do you trust him to be the main ball handler?

He makes a lot of nice passes in traffic off his drives. His height helps him see the court and his length provided some nice wrap around passes as defenders collapsed on him. I think his lack of speed is a bit of an illusion. Even with the ball in his hand one he had a step on a guy I don't remember seeing him get caught from behind. He has really long legs making it look slower but he just covers a lot of ground per dribble and step. The part that makes me most encouraged about him as a shooter is the 81% FT%. I doubt he will be a knock down shooter right out of the gate but he has a solid enough stroke to keep people honest and good enough off the bounce to get to the rim. The key for me is defense. As he adds some strength he will be able to defend the 1-3 and in a switching defense league that will be nice. his standing reach puts him right in the range of an average SF. The key for him will be how he develops physically because he is still very young. If he can work hard and add some muscle to his frame he could be a really solid player for a long time.

I am all in on this kid for our team. I was a slow adopter, watched a few UK games during the season and it took a while for him to grow on me, but I'm there. I agree that his speed is deceptive, he's not a flashy player but I think he is hugely effective. Things I love about him:

(1) strong in metrics that I put weight on for NBA success - defensive metrics + FT%, high A:TO ratio for primary ball handler
(2) age - turns 20 this summer, lots of development left
(3) function in modern NBA - his ability to defend multiple positions, handle the ball, and shoot efficiently is huge. I don't want to pick him based on our current roster, I want to pick him based on what we need to have a successful roster in 4 to 5 years and his skillset matches the direction of the NBA.

If he puts on weight, he could potentially (way down the line) be plugged in at four positions.

agree entirely - he's my guy at this point.

SGA stats: 33.7 mpg, 50.0% FG, 40.4% 3PT (1.5 attempts), 81.7% FT, 5.1 ast, 2.7 to, 1.6 stl, 0.5 blk
De'Aaron Fox stats: 29.6 mpg, 47.9% FG, 24.6% 3PT (1.9 attempts), 73.6% FT, 4.6 ast, 2.4 to, 1.5 stl, 0.2 blk

Fox was a top 5 pick in a solid draft, but he was easily outperformed by SGA statistically. I'm counting it as hitting the lottery if SGA makes it to 11.

If Orlando takes Michael Porter or a big at 6 then I think there is a pretty good chance he'll be there at 11. There is less of a chance if Orlando takes Trae Young, but still possible. I wouldn't be surprised if Orlando takes Shai at 6 and New York could take him at 9 if Trae Young is off the board.

I really think this guy is going to be a bust in the NBA. He's also pretty redundant to what we already have in Lamb & Monk.

What player like him has translated into the nba? Shaun Livingston and mcw.

Watch his tape again and see how many times he dunks. At 6-6 with 7 foot wingspan playing the point one would think he dunks often. He just doesn’t. To me that means he isn’t super athletic because he is jumping over people, or burning people bad enough to explode past them.
