Not pretty

Confirms what we believed all along - Cliff wanted Mitchell, Cho (or MJ) wanted Monk. Cliff sulked all year, benched Monk. Everyone got fired. Not the first horror show we've heard under MJ - dating back to DJ/Brook disaster and Frank disaster.

Holy crap. Is this really true? I can’t listen to the podcast right now, but was there anymore to it?

This Donavan Mitchell thing is going to haunt us for a long time unless Monk breaks out in epic fashion in 18-19.

Upsetting news.

Maybe Cliff was right, but he should not have had much say over who we draft anyways

Where was Cho during all this? Did he step up and back Clifford? Of course not.

Input yes, control no. Unless his job title includes that

It’s like this team is still screwed up from the first few draft blunders and that continues to affect how we draft today. I keep thinking about Larry Brown insisting on DJ over Brooke. Ugh. We could create a top 10 list soon.

Just praying Monk is living in the gym this summer.

The guy living in Virginia with no real sources in the Hornets' organization stealing other people's scoops again, not surprising!

The only reason I'm a fan of this team is because I ride or die with my local clubs. That may be dumb, but I'll never be a bandwagon guy.

That said I find it a bit odd that the only gossip you ever hear about draft room dysfunction are focused on the two teams with minority owners. Where are the articles about Glenn Taylor in Minneapolis? Or the awful DeVos family in Orlando?

It all stems from the Kwame Brown pick. Even if he was the number 1 pick for most experts that gave Jordan a bad name as an executive.

If true MJ needs to recognize his limitations and let his experts run the show. Too many draft duds. Can’t all be on MJ. Hope Mitch has the gonads to say no.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Why is this news? All they say was Clifford wanted Michell, and he was overridden. We already knew this.

Everything looks better or worse in hindsight. Lowe goes on to say he’s looking forward to what Monk can do.

As for random Twitter dude comments, yeah I’m not paying that any mind.

Jesus man, **** Mitchell seriously, Monk was the better prospect at the time and we made the right choice. Mitchell wouldnt have gotten the green light here and would have been rotting on the bench while we watch MCW miss layups. this boards wastes way to much time on woulda coulda shoulda.

Who cares if Cliff saw the potential of Mitchell

Cliff would not have given him the freedom to showcase his skills.

Cliff would not have been able to put him in position to succeed, as Cliff isn't with today's game. Cliff is stubborn and stuck in the old NBA

I still believe that Monk can be as good or better than Mitchell, but time will tell

I believe Monk will turn out better than Mitchell. I think Mitchell will always be a volume scorer. Anyways they both shot the same from 3.

It's funny that Clifford is a good judge of talent yet everyone always apologized for Cho. Clifford's problem is the mission. His job was to win, not develop players. Cho also screwed him by spending all MJ's money on role players. If Clifford benched them, it's basically flushing money down the toilet. The mission now should be development. We don't have the assets to acquire new talent. We have to develop what we have and suffer through the growing pains, even if it means more losses.

This is no different then teams saying they would of took Porzingis or Klay or Kawhi... you hear it all the time. Monk was rated higher on most big boards around the league and I remain positive on his outlook.

He doesn’t have to be better than Mitchell either. He turns out to be a 18ppg guard I think we are winning.

Mitchell wouldn't have played much here and Utah would have taken Monk and he would have been really good. Its all bad hindsight

Main problem was always disconnect between coaching and front office. Cliff wanted players to play his way. The players drafted were always suited for a different style. We have always seemed to draft quicker players, meant for a faster paced offense. Cliff wanted half court with Big Al or run pick and roll every time down the court.

Now, looking back everybody wanted Monk and was shocked he fell. Mitchell got playing time early in the year and even though he made lots of mistakes early, he was allowed to learn on the job and play through them. Monk wasn't as fortunate. Is Mitchell better than Monk? Who knows! But one thing is sure, this board and the entire NBA would have gone crazy if we passed on Monk for Mitchell even if it were the right move. I for one like Monk and like his potential. He showed a lot of flashes in very little time. Let's just play this out. This "news" has been stated over and over before. Why is this a big deal now?
