What player will have a breakout year?

Out of the players on the roster as of now, what player do you think is most likely to have a breakout year?

Not sure. I might have chose bacon if you were to have included him. Not sure I would have chosen him, but him not being there makes me think I might have if he were lol.

Monk. The coach knows he's a future #1. The new system plays to his strengths. He has something to prove after getting buried on the bench last season. Literally Borrego said the team will be able to play through him for stretches. The trick will be getting him to be a #2 option as quicky as possibly so we can win now and compel Kemba to stay.

Jeremy Lamb fo sho. Moving Batum to the 3 or 4 and allowing Lamb to start beside Kemba is going to be huge. He avg'd 13ppg in an underutilized role and was almost 19 PER.

I still think, depending on what Monk does and our plans for him in the big picture, we should let Lamb ball out and then trade him for a huge asset at the deadline. I think he will want too much and will be hard to fit under our cap with Kemba's new contract. IMO, Monk is our future at the 2 in a Stevie Francis role beside Kemba.

Monk has Kemba and Lamb blocking him. He's going to be a lot better and carry our 2nd unit offensively, but I don't think he'll get enough minutes to put up big production stats.

I think Lamb is going to see the biggest increase in minutes so he'll have a 'breakout' season, but in reality that happened last year, he just didn't get enough minutes for it to clearly show up in the box score.

Lamb also excelled as a starter while Dwight was here. Lamb is going to get more minutes and more quality minutes. I think he can become a #2 option this year. I just feel Monk is going to shock the NBA, that is if he's not traded for Kawhi.

Every time that I hear the Mitchell complainers about how we 'took the wrong player', I get so frustrated. I think Monk will be viewed as an amazing get once the shock collar is taken off and allowed to be who he is.

it’s most likely Lamb but I think Monk could take it also.

Obvious choice is Lamb in a contract year but I am going to go MKG. His rebounding will go back up with Dwight gone and I think he actually shoots some 3s this year.

Interesting no one choose Kemba. I guess everybody just expects him to remain the same. Technically, I think it is considered a breakout year if he goes from star to superstar.

I'll piss myself in joy if MKG drops 40 3s this year :) Hell, 25 would be enough.

Going with Nic. I'm in the minority, but there are lots of factors pointing to a bounceback for him:
1. Not having to play with Dwight, and adjust to him. I think Nic is such a pleaser, that he tried too hard to adjust. He can just play this year.
2. Not having to deal with injuries.
3. His kid is getting older. Sleeping through the night is a great thing.
4. I think we're going to sign another Frenchie to backup Kemba, a vet who has rings who JB is familiar with. I think comfort level with Nic is big.
5. I think he going to get the minutes. Don't know if Monk or Bacon or Miles really get the minutes to shine.
Who I woulda took:
2023: Miller | 2022: Duren | 2021: Bouknight, Jones | 2020: Ball | 2019: PJ | 2018: MPJ | 2017: Monk | 2016: Damian Jones | 2015: Winslow | 2014: Vonleh, Napier | 2013: McLemore | 2012: MKG | 2011: Knight, Kawhi

For the record he is playing with our NT for two qualifiers for world cup 2019.
And the issues remains the same (soft in defense, geting stuck in most screens, albeit he did a better job in contesting off the ball moves, and easily posted by a Mr nobody in other's team). If we had to face Ingles (with or without Australia), i think he would look as horrible as previous year in the pnr D.

But he was used in 1st game (against Bosnia) at the 4 during the whole 4th (he did not play all of it) and it looked good actually (in offense mostly even if he did not shoot a lot).

Today we play against Russia (with Mozgov btw), i will tell you if i can share your optimism.

update : Game against Russia - in Russia - over. He had an okay game (on both ends) and ended at the 4 spot again in our small ball line up (with Gobert at the 5). Finished with 13 pts on 6/7, no 3 attempted, 1/2 at ft, just one turnover, 2 as and 2 stl
Seems like he's not done yet after all.

Hopefully everybody!! If everybody plays to half of their full potential we could make it out of the first round.

I'm not saying its gonna be a breakout year but Miles Bridges will impress. He is NBA ready with potential to spare.

I think Monk has the potential for most dramatic improvement. Lamb also has a chance to get more attention around the league if he has another good year.
