Just coming from the Wiz board. I know most of you guys watched him alot last year.

Just wanted your opinion.

What i hate or dislike the most is that he can't raise is elbow above his shoulders and actually straighten his arm. I bet if you as him to held his elbow above after shooting a jump shot, he wouldn't be able to do it. My problem is that, Dwight should know that he has a handicapped shoulders, why complain, why complain about offensive touches when you now you have permanently damaged shoulders from lifting weights.
I assume he experiences serious pain whenever he attempts to extend his directly above his head. \
It sad though, this guy can not raise his elbow above his shoulder and perform any fine motor movements. So much potential wasted. He had the chance to be one of the best centers, but ruined his shoulders lifting to much weight.
He didn't realize that being able to manipulate the weight of a basetball...above your head is what transforms you from a grunt banging bodies and shoveling rocks, versus highly skilled swordsman. The basketball is your sword. If you can't manipulate the ball finely above your head...meaning the ability to keep your elbow above your head on a jump shot, it basically means you can hold a sword but never swing a sword.
dwight wants to be a master swordsman but you lack the ability to even lift the sword above your head which is fundamental. How can ever expect to win a battle without being able to lift a sword over your head. Dwight can't raise his elbow above his head with the basketball....is basically the same issue. Yet he wants to be treated like a master swordsman.

You clearly have alot of work to do with your shoulders and releasing the ball before you can even expect to have a significant offensive role on a championship caliber team.
the exercise I expect to see, is for him to take a 2 lb weight--(basketball is only 22 ounces less than 2 pounds), hold his elbow up to ear, and without ever dropping his elbow from his year, do 200 reps with a 2 pound weight because to me he can't straighten out his deltoid shoulder muscle and and tricep. Howard's problem is he can't control both is deltoid and tricep once his elbow is raised above his head. He has zero coordination, but this should not be case since Howard's body type is actually built for speed and fine motor coordination. Now if you had Shaq's dense bone structure, he would get a pass. Dwight has bird like bone structure built for speed and coordination so --Dwight's Problems are all inside his head.

Obviously the guy in the video isn't pretending to point his elbow at the rim which is what Howard should do when he does this exercise. So again, howard needs to use very light weights 2 pounds and use very high repetition like 300 to gain the touch he needs.
he should do these exercise iike in the video but pretend that he is shooting over an outstretched hand trying to block his shot.

Yes do this with your left arm. So 2 lb weight, 300 times pretending you are shooting over a defender....preferable move your feet as if you are driving with your left and do this exercise. I think Dwight Howard's problem's would be solved. Just takes a little creativity and desire.

he's good when he wants to be a PnR guy who just screens shooters and gives energy on both ends. He'd be an all-star if he approached the game like Clint Capela or Rudy Gobert. The talent is still there.

His issue is that he doesn't want to be a PnR guy who just screens shooters and gives energy on both ends. His mindset is that he's a post up guy and the game plan has to revolve around him. He destroys ball movement, blows up set plays so he can **** around with the ball, and gives minimal to no effort against stretch bigs when they operate on the perimeter. Those are all huuuuge negatives to any modern gameplan, since he is not good at posting up at all, horribly turnover prone, and can't shoot outside of 10 feet.

He'll be an interior presence on both boards, a great lob target for Wall, and a nice shot blocker like he always is, but the good doesn't always outweigh the bad with him. In terms of overall impact, he's a replacement level center who will piss off his teammates more than Gortat ever did.

For a team that only has Mahinmi at center, you'll be okay with the good and bad, because of who you other options are (just like we did when we only had O'Bryant and bad Frank behind Howard) but once you have other viable options (we got Hernangomez, Frank played better, we hope Zeller will be healthy next season), you'll be waiting for his exit, just like us, just like ATL, just like Houston.

I don't think he'll get better in the sense that he is who he is and I don't see it changing at this point in his career. The area of debate will be how useful is he based on your scheme / system.

Depends on whether your coach looks at him like a lovestruck schoolgirl who thinks he can do no wrong or if he looks at him like a head coach who insists he plays the way he is told. The problems with DH are all above the neck and kissing his ass won't get you anywhere with him.

So, you ask that question but then you point out that one of Dwight's problems is his muscular body. I'm just going to tell you a guy that works out like that isn't going to become more flexible as he gets older. He's a dying breed in today's NBA and he was great at what he does for a long time. Washington's greatest pickup from Dwight will be his rebounding skills. What they will lose will be in his selfishness on offense. In the end, you may just want to skip this season.

Can he? Yes.
Will he? Very unlikely.
Good luck!

He could help a little, but the wins will be coming from Wall, Beal, Porter, and role players. I think he could be a better fit with Washington because of their shooters and playmakers, but ultimately his impact is limited because of his lack of versatility, flexibility, and his misunderstanding of the role he should be playing in today's game.

Played well here. Guys can hate but he stepped up in big games and was giving it his all when everyone else stopped caring.

I don't think the Wizards locker room is built to welcome anyone though.

The wizards locker room sounds like one of the most dysfunctional out there. I didn’t even really think about that until DY’s comment. What will adding Howard do lol.

His main problem is on defense not offense.

Look at what we saw in the western conference finals and the finals. The best defense is switching every screen because moving screens are legal. This allows a team to get their best offensive player on the other teams worst defender.

Over and over we saw Lebron 1v1 vs Steph, Durant 1v1 vs G Hill, and Steph 1v1 vs Kevin Love. Dwight can't defend the pick and roll and he can't defend anyone on the perimeter.

If he was efficient offensively it could offset this but his free throw percentage makes him inefficient. If he could shoot like 85% from the line you could build around him and he would be the best player in the league. As it stands now he is an afterthought.

I thought what he gave us last year was decent. I didn't see any signs of immaturity or whatever. I don't know what goes on in the locker room though and problems there are more likely to be kept in-house.
