https://hoopshype.com/2018/10/22/ranking-these-10-players-hot-starts-by-sustainability/

1. KEMBA WALKER, CHARLOTTE HORNETS
Stats: 3 GP, 35.3 ppg, 3.0 rpg, 5.3 apg, 1.0 spg on 48.7/50.0/76.5

Thus far this season, Kemba Walker has taken his game from All-Star level to fringe MVP candidate. Through the first week of the league year, the Charlotte Hornets guard is leading the league in scoring, both in average and total points. Sure, he’s shooting a lot (25.3 FGA nightly), but the shots aren’t going down at some astronomical rate; his shooting splits actually seem quite sustainable, which is a scary thought for opponents.

Until he tires out, we expect to see Walker – the pull-up jumper and crossover specialist – continue to put up absurd scoring marks and help lead Charlotte back to the postseason for the first time in two years.

"Kemba Walker has become an MVP level star"

And to think I had to argue with people that doubted he’d even become a top 10 PG nevertheless remain a starting PG since he was better suited to be a 6th man. Laughed at the thought that he could be as good as Mike Conley Jr. at any point in his career.

For the record (and using Smitty's numbers), if the Hornets and Kemba's side could agree on a 155Mish new contract, things would not look so bad in terms of cap (not including cap holds etc, just giving some perspective).

On a near max contract (i took 30% of next cap estimation), it could look like this (for an amount in the 177M range)

Hereis a list of expiring contracts

I had no idea Kemba was eligible for supermax if he makes All NBA team this season. I was thinking he had to make it 2/3.
Kemba may have to make another statement tonight against Irving.

We can't give him a super max and expect to ever build a competitive team around him. Wouldn't his super max be like 35-40 mil per year? Hes literally 2nd favorite player of all time, but he isnt worth that. We honestly need him to take a bit of a discount on his normal max to give us options to build around him.

He's getting all kinds of buzz for lighting it up.

But it's a tough decision to max him out if the Hornets are at best a bottom 4 playoffs seed with him.

OTOH, MJ may be looking at his box office attraction too. Whether or not the Hornets get into the playoffs and make noise, Kemba is the biggest attraction on the team and one who will help sell tickets.

Kemba Walker is the first player to follow up a 60-point game with a 40-point game since Kobe Bryant in 2006-07 pic.twitter.com/XzmgzpVc1G

If we had won the Anthony Davis sweepstakes way back when, do you think Davis + Kemba would be good enough to win (or at least strongly contend for) a championship today?

Depending on how things went with other contracts (not getting suckered into Batum) we'd probably be somewhere in the lower level of the Toronto/Boston/Philly/Milwaulkee group. Locked into the 4/5 matchup at worst.

Not trying to hate (because I'm sure NOP fans are as sick of people begging Davis to leave as we are of vultures circling Kemba) but I am really confident Davis would have accomplished far more by now had he landed here rather than New Orleans. Part of that is Kemba, but mostly it's just because the East is an inferior conference.

I know it's irrational and conspiratorial but I'm convinced Stern rigged that lottery to justify "basketball reasons", as someone who also pulls for the Lakers the aborted CP3 deal and the NO lotto was a 1-2 punch. So glad he is gone, he was great for the league, but it was past his time.

Oh yeah, I think this is much closer to a fact then not. The NBA owned the New Orleans team and it was a mess, they then sold it to the Saints guy with the condition that they get the #1 pick and we get the Hornets name, #2 pick, the franchise history and our colors back. I am nearly positive this happened. UGHHH
