It’s technically not their faults, but if one or both of them opted out of their final year I suspect Kemba would still be here. The thing is I think Marvin would’ve been able to secure 3 years and make more than his salary this year. MKG, not so much. 2016 off season is the gift that keeps on giving.

I doubt that, Kemba wants to win and we aren't in a position to do that.

On topic if Marvin would have been able to get a 3 year contract and we still haven't found a taker for him then Mitch isn't doing his job. I'm really confident that either the Pelicans or Mavericks would swap expiring players with us.

I should've said that I meant that in the sense the team would've likely offered Kemba closer to the regular max which I think he would've taken.

Bacon is only 23 (about to turn 24), dont understand how that doesn't fit into our rebuild. Not that old imo. Plus, I doubt any casual nba fan that doesn't pay any attention to Hornets basketball even knows who Dwayne Bacon is. Not bashing Dwayne, he was starting to put something together towards the end of last season and I'm excited to see what he does next season. But as of today, he won't cost that much to retain. If he does keep progressing, then great. He's still young and pay the man accordingly. I just don't think its anything we need to worry about at the very moment. Any package we send Dwayne out in, I bet wouldn't bring back much value at this point.

i would like to grab what ever big Orlando don't want. They have a fair bit of potential lying around with awkward fits

CHA out Rozier and Biz
CHA in Chris Paul and LAC 2022 1st

OKC out Paul and LAC 2022 1st
OKC in Jackson and Biz

DET out Reggie Jackson
DET in Rozier

The Hornets take on Paul for a 1st round pick in what is heavily hinted to be the double draft. And who knows what the Clippers will look like after their third season playing together, that pick could end up being pretty valuable.

The Thunder get expiring contracts for Paul at the cost of one of their many, many future firsts.

The Pistons swap Jackson for a similar, younger player locked up for 2 more years.

CHA out Marvin and Bacon
CHA in Kent Bazemore and POR 2020 1st

The team now has an all NC backcourt with the exception of Monk and two future 1sts for the rebuild.

Paul/Graham
Monk/Bazemore/Martin
Bridges/Batum/Martin
PJ Wash/MKG
Zeller/Hernangomez

We need to stop with those C Paul trade.
Moreover the LAC 1st is as valuable as a good 2nd rounder.

I’d rather have Rozier than Paul at this point. At least he’s young.

Would you guys be interested in this deal?

Charlotte gets: Chris Paul(3/$124m), Steven Adams (2/$53m), Danilo Gallinari (1/$22.6m)

OKC gets: Nic Batum (2/$52m), Cody Zeller (2/$30m), Bismayck Biyombo (1/$17m), Marvin Williams (1/$15m) MKG (1/$13m), 1st round pick in 2020

Charlotte benefits: Becomes better team...

OKC benefits: First Round pick, Saves $2m in Year 1, Saves $26m in Year 2, Saves $44m in Year 3. Also improves their own draft pick this year.

First off half the league is legally not able to be traded right now.

Second everybody thinks they filled their holes in FA, just like UNCNYC general managers tend to see the best in a guy and will believe in them until they fail.

Third their value is super low because a team assumes the worst. Just like CP3, his value has been brought down by media. He will still put up 16 and 7 in limited minutes for OKC at worst.

Teams will want to see Marvin healthy and knocking down nearly 40%. He is doing that he could get us a late first from the right team.

yeah plus also if a team trades for marvin now they have to pay him $15m... they can wait until 2/3 of the way thru the season and pay him $5m and as you mentioned ensure he is healthy, playing well, their team is in contention, etc...

Why don’t we just throw in the 2021 1st round draft pick too while we’re getting bent over...

How are we getting "bent over"?

We take on more future money, give up expiring contracts, everyone was just complaining about paying Kemba the max later on in his career while CP3 is already there, Gallo gets hurt as much as Zeller, and we’re giving up a first round pick which would be a lottery pick.

I probably still wouldn’t do it if they give us their 1st, but I sure as hell am not giving up a potential #1 pick for Steve Adams

I don't think that Chris Paul, Adams, and Gallo at those numbers would be worth it for our team. If we are committed to the future, in developing Graham, Miles, Bacon, Monk, and our future 1st round picks (which we wouldn't give up for Gasol), then we should let our expirings expire instead of taking on new money. Honestly, next year, when we have like $25m in cap room due to Marv, MKG, and Biz coming off, I think we should be taking on money to get more picks... using our cap space not to sign band-aids, but to get more shots at the lottery from other teams in exchange for taking on that salary. People always say, what is Charlotte going to do with cap space, free agent's aren't coming here. But cap space is a valuable tool, and we should be utilizing it in the best way, not with players on the decline, or known commodities.

The team can accrue some assets without taking on albatross contracts.

A trade I like is Marvin and Bacon to Portland for Kent Bazemore and a lottery protected 2020 1st.

That would make a ton of sense particularly with the ankle injury to zach collins

I'd much rather find a way to trade Zeller. We can bring Willy back pretty cheap and keep him along as we rebuild. Zeller is a wasted space.

Yup, Zeller should actually be the guy we try to trade the most. His biggest value on this team (when he actually played) was being a pick machine for Kemba. We sacrificed front court scoring and defense for that. I think he has some perceived value around the league and would be a great fit on a contender who needed a rugged front court guy to set screens and run to the paint. Maybe Boston wants him!

The Raptors wanted Batum in the summer of 2016.

I wonder if they'd be interested in trading Ibaka for him? Mitch would probably have to provide incentive for the extra year, but depending on how Monk and/or Bacon look I think it would be worth considering including one of them just to get Batum out of Charlotte.

Don’t know what Ibaka has left in the tank but he’d be an upgrade on sheer attitude alone. I’d love to do this if it was a straight trade. No giving away picks to just get dead expensive weight outta town.
