He made the argument that we've got a bench full of assistant coaches, if they can't mentor and teach the young guys then they should be fired rather than keeping them and vets on the roster. Thought that was an interesting point, haven't thought of that before.

That is a very good point.

That said, player to player relationships can differ from player to coach relationships.

I think Marv brings tremendous value off and on the court - from a professionalism and production standpoint respectively.

Marvin is a 99th percentile teammate, but if the offers are good enough you move him. I imagine a contender will be intrigued enough to make a competitive offer at the deadline.

Biz is definitely going to be tradeable if he keeps this up.

Cheap, underused centres I would target to fill the gap.
Zizic
Noah Vonleh, (he was really solid at New York last year)
WCS (not under used, but GSW have no use for him anymore, swap him for Bacon)

Would be kind of funny if WCS ended up here after we (allegedly) offered him 4x what he ended up taking.

He's still a dominant center in a market where the bottom fell out. But I think we have a good chance of signing him. Maybe even Harrell.

Drummonds passing was better than I expected last night, for that package I would give him a fly but I can't see Boston giving up Smart just for Zeller. They love smart.

Theis has been playing well, so I can't see them entertaining this at all.

Drummond had a sweet dribble drive move near the bucket where he moved like a guard. I think he's in a bad place stuck with Blake. Pistons have a horrible vibe to them. He can still get better. Imagine Devonté feeding him.

Yeah Celts could reunite Zeller and Kemba but I doubt they would part with Smart. It's tough to match Zeller. Most teams have bench centers who do what he does for a fraction of the cost.

You guys think Marvin gets bought out to let him play for a contender?

Nope, too good a veteran leader and locker room presence.

Team value him highly

Drummond's defense is terrible, and he gets old Dwight syndrome on offense. He's another player who should've been really really good if he had just to stuck to being a Rudy Gobert/Clint Capela on offense, like he was in his first couple seasons. Ever since then, he's been trying all these god awful post ups, jumpers, and other shots he has no chance of hitting, driving down his efficiency to well below average. Some of that was SVG trying to make him a post player and diversify and I think that partially ruined him because he's not good at any of that.

He'd be an unbelievable fantasy option if he came here though. Very real chance he'd average 20 rebounds a game.

Utah could use an experienced backup C and we could take a look at a couple of young players:

Cody Zeller to UTA for Dante Exum + Tony Bradley

Not sure how we could get it done, but I'd love to make some type of Marvin Williams - Michael Porter Jr swap. Contracts don't match so we'd have to figure something out there, but I think there'd be a mutual interest there since Denver is contending for a Championship this year and Marvin is a reliable role player that can play against the top teams. Porter Jr isn't getting any minutes right now and may be on his way out of the league, but it'd at least give us some type of hope in a rebuild.

The more I think about this the more I feel like they need to resist any trades like this and just play the season out and keep on their current trajectory. We should finish bottom 7 easily and we are one injury away from bottom 3. Let’s get that high pick and if we have a chance to trade someone for more future picks then we do it. I have no doubt this team would be better and possibly a bottom playoff team with Drummond or Love... but going back to the last 3 seasons is not what we want. A top 3 pick and then adding one of those guys or similar would be a much better long term strategy.

Agree, and I am convinced this is Mitch’s strategy as well. The wild card, as always, is Jordan. Does he get impatient (again) and push for some deal for a name player versus following the plan?
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.
