Fanbase Rookie Approval Rating: Miles Bridges

Hey so I'm embarking on a litte project to compile fanbase approval ratings for the rookies your team drafted (or traded for on Draft night). Very simple poll like a Presidential approval. Use whatever subjective or objective criteria you feel is necessary to decide.

Approve. Didn't love the pick at the time but it seems clear that this was the right decision. I don't think his ceiling is super high but the chances of him becoming a capable starter are really good. And I'm assuming we had a pretty good feeling that Parker would come here, so no glaring need for a PG (SGA). They clearly didn't want to roll the dice on Porter. Aside from those two, Bridges appears to be the BPA by far. No complaints from me now.

Miles has been solid and I've got no complaints. I mean, just look at some of the guys we've picked in that range before. Vonleh, Kaminsky. Miles has shown me more than those guys have shown their whole careers.

If miles can get more aggressive and improve his handles he can be a legit borderline all star.

Approve. Miles Bridges’ intangibles are a lot better than I projected by observing him play at Michigan State for two seasons. I originally didn’t care for selecting him during the draft process but he’s exactly what we needed from his athleticism, style of play, to his positional versatility in the frontcourt.

Miles has been solid as a rookie. He shows a good base for growth going forward, I'm fairly confident that he will have a high floor for his career. At worst he's a rotation player for many years, due to his versatility, athleticism, and 3-point shooting. As he gains better defensive awareness and continues to improve his three-point shot, he should be one of the League's best 3 and D forwards.

I'm not sure if I see a path towards a very high ceiling however, unless he takes a massive leap in one of his offensive skills. I'm having a hard time envisioning him as a top 1 2 or 3 option on a playoff team. But I think he has the ability to turn into a better version of Marvin Williams over his career, which will be a very valuable player to have on the roster.

For next season, I would love to see improvements in his ball-handling and off the dribble creation, as well as his in-between offensive game.

I don't want him to fall into the mentality of being okay with being a fifth option and garbage man in the offense. Over the next two years he needs to have the skills to force coaches to carve out a bigger role for him offensively. The quickest way to do that will be by developing his off the dribble game.

I couldnt be more excited about Miles, he has all the tools and a great example of the new NBA body type and all this is coming from a guy that wanted SGA.

A bit confused how someone could have voted disapprove, is that based on current performance or potential?

He's looked pretty good. I think he'll be a decent offensive rotation player off the bench at worst. I would still rather have SGA then bridges + 2 2nd round picks (history says at least on of these will be traded for cash), so it's hard for me to say straight up approve.

He will no doubt forever be linked with Alexander and to a lesser extent Porter, since those were the two obvious choices we passed on to select Bridges.

While I'm happy with Bridges, I do think there is a real chance that Alexander could be special.

I'm definitely much happier with bridges than I was with monk at the same time last year... or even now.

Not to turn this into a Bridges versus monk debate, but if I had to choose one to keep on this team moving forward I would select miles.

Just compared to some other player's rookie season and Miles is showing a lot of promise. I'd be very interested to see what he could do playing with the starters.

Miles has more potential than I expected, that's for sure. He's an explosive player in the open court. Still a ways to go, but I feel better about this pick than I did in the past.

I saw this comparison on reddit.

I'm with you on this. I rooted hard for SGA and was excited when he was the pick, then disappointed when the trade went down. And it looks like SGA is going to be pretty good.

But

these kind of things are not always straightforward. There is stuff going on behind the scenes that we the public may not know until after the fact. Sometimes the player doesn't want the team. Only since the draft has it been reported that the Clips promised SGA, that SGA wanted to be in LAC, and that his agent shut down workouts for other teams. Kind of reminds me in a way of the Jeremy Lin situation. I and many others wanted CHA to pay LIn and keep him, but Lin publicly avowed that he wanted to run his own team, and probably would have bolted to BKN for the opportunity no matter the CHA offer. Obviously the Hornets could have drafted SGA, but if he was gonna be sour about not going to LAC, and unhappy being Kemba's understudy, possibly for many years, then it was smart of the Hornets to draft SGA and extort LAC a couple of seconds for him.

Truth be told I wish we could have BOTH SGA and Miles. Alas. Meanwhile, Miles has been an upside surprise to me. He's pretty darn good for age 20. More than anything I like his bouncy attitude. A viewer tweeted Eric & Dell one game that Bridges should be called "Frequent Flyer Miles." I agree. He is like a jolt of lightning in what had become a grey cloud desultory roster. I would like to have more confidence in his three point stroke. If he steadies that, I think his play demands higher usage. He can be a cornerstone as this roster skews younger, and maybe even a star.

I'm guessing we had Miles and SGA rated similarly on our draft board and decided it would be better to use LA's desire for SGA to get us some 2nd round picks to help facilitate future trades to clear salary cap for the next two offseasons.

I think I'd still slightly prefer SGA at this point, but its close enough right now that I don't really care.
