Re: GOAT: The Jordan Thread
Obviously great stuff from MJ, really proud he's our owner. That said, I'm a little bugged at how ESPN's "The Undefeated" is framing it with the quote on this particular tweet.
[tweet]https://twitter.com/TheUndefeated/status/757605224655773697[/tweet]
That's of course only half of that particular quote: "I have been deeply troubled by the deaths of African-Americans at the hands of law enforcement and angered by the cowardly and hateful targeting and killing of police officers."
I don't know...I'm probably overthinking it.

Re: GOAT: The Jordan Thread
You aren't (or maybe I'm just cynical too). They framed it that way specifically to put a certain slant on it. From what I understand, the Undefeated is a black targeted, pseudo-social rights section on ESPN. Putting it that way just panders to their assumed/specific market. It'd be no different than a police specific social media platform posted just the second half of the quote (and I'm sure it's happened).
It also defeats the purpose of MJ's statement because at least a few people who see that out-of-context quote won't bother to read the full statement.
None of that is to take away from the fact that MJ has a very unique platform in the sports and social world to influence the public perception of the current social climate. He could've said anything, could've been to one extreme or the other, or said nothing at all. What he did come out with was the perfect statement IMO. I hope his participation can help fix some of the problems facing the black/police relationship

Jordan donates $5 million to the National African American Museum. The largest donation by a sports figure to the 19th Smithsonian Museum. It is set to open in September.

Hmmmm this seems like a memory slip unless you took night or weekend classes in elementary school

Most likely, he is not mistaken. I grew up in Chapel Hill in the 80's and we would most definitely be watching UNC play during the school day at least one day of the year.........
ACC tournament Friday baby!

Also, good on Jordan for the donation. Seems like he is cracking open the piggy bank a bit lately.

Yes I did the same. But when have duke and unc played in the first round during the day??? It's gotta be pre 1988 when I started watching. And duke and unc were good for most of the years right before that... I guess I didn't know how old the poster was. If he's in his 40s perhaps he was correct

You are right, not many UNC vs Duke meetings during the work week, they are usually ranked too high to meet early in the tourney. But, I did find one that I likely saw, not sure about the OP.

ACC tournament on TV in school on Friday, one of the best memories of the 80s.

First one I remember from school was the noon game where #8 Maryland destroyed #1 nc state.
I remember being 6 years old and thinking that can't be possible. 30 years later I know to expect state to lose in the most unimaginable ways ever

Yet another example of how MJ was way ahead of his time.

GOAT: The Jordan Thread
Interesting to hear Jordan saying that in 2008 he was trying to trade up to draft Westbrook.
Jordan was unsuccessful and instead we stayed pat and took Augustin at #9
I wonder what Jordan was offering to move up?

MJ is learning from Danny Ainge. Wait until a player breaks out then leak a story to the press about how you tried to trade for that player on draft night. He's about 5 years too late on the Westbrook comments, but it's baby steps.

Pretty sure he had a man crush on him back then.
He signed him to Jordan Brand pretty quickly - and before he broke out.
Interesting as well - we were said to be targeting Doc with our second pick, but he was snapped up before we were to pick and took Ajinca instead. Funny how Doc ended up on our roster eventually.
Same with Belli. We targeted him in FA a few years ago and ended up landing him eventually as well.

MJ's comments on how he is proud of Westbrook's loyalty to Oklahoma... don't think that's not a message to Kemba and MKG and Cody, who are also Team Jordan players. I'm proud (and reward... hint hint) guys who are loyal to their teams. Like ours.
Now if Blake wants to sign here and take Marv's spot....
