So, hes likely either walking for nothing or being resigned on a contract that will prevent the franchise from ever building a competitive team around him. If MJ continues to refuse to pay the luxury tax they are going to possibly have to give up assets just to clear enough salary to stay under the tax after his contract kicks in.

Unfortunately, his first All NBA means he can destroy our cap like John Wall and Andrew Wiggins have done to other teams.

Dude deserves it the honor. Not sure if I would rather let him walk and start over or just pay him and hope our young guys develop and use the wasted Batum/Biyombo/MKG/Parker on his raise while we try to sign decent, low priced talent like the Nets have.

Can we offer him say 5/200 and save a little $ while still crushing all other offers?

Double posted edit. Seems like MJ is going to HAVE to go over the cap this year until we clear out some expirings. Better to bring back Frank or Lamb and have the other guy get replaced with the #1 pick. I would trade Monk for another later pick if we could too. Decent talent in the back end/early second and we could save some $. He should still have some value, right?

I think Kemba gets the supermax, and we let Biz, MKG, and Marv come off the cap next year. I think we'll eat the tax this year, but we should be alright when the expirings come off. We have to nail drafts and get lucky.

MJ and Mitch know that Kemba is the only reason we get ANY attention, and why people come to games.
