I don't think signing Terry was a bad move, if the team anticipates operating as an over the cap team in the future. The days of us having 15-30 million in cap space every summer are over especially once we sign Miles to a big deal. That means having solid players on tradeable contracts such as Rozier is the best way to get better via Sign and Trades or just straight trades.

If you look at Hornets roster, we have some of the most tradeable assets in league because we have guys making all different ranges of salaries. Also, as several posters have already pointed out guys who can score 20, create their own shot and make open threes are always going to be valuable in trades.

I view Terry as a solid fit next to LaMelo in short term, but longterm his contract could be packaged in a deal for a guy making 30-40 million if we find ourselves in that type of situation.

I'm curious to see if Clifford has any impact on Terry's defense... Terry's issues on that end aren't physical issues that he can't overcome, he's quick and strong... the issues are almost all decision-making , positioning, team-related, and some effort issues. Adequate defensive coaching can limit three of these issues.

Questions about Rozier's size are overblown, his wingspan and standing reach are insane for a 6'1 guy, and basically equal that of most 6'3 to 6'5 SGs, not to mention his vertical which is better than most, and our PG is 6'7, so it's not like we're running two small guards out there.

Rozier has improved little by little every season for us, I hope defense could be next on the menu.

Terry was a good defender in Boston.

He was viewed an a poor offensive player but a pesky defender.

When he came here, the opposite became true.

I posted earlier in the thread (I think it was this one?) that one of his main strengths in college and pre-draft was defense.

Terry peaked in 2021 due to his insane clutch play. Now that LaMelo and Miles have developed further, Terry is less effective and he really wants the ball in his hands to do what he does.

We are undersized with Terry as a SG playing big minutes. Since we do have a 6’7” PG now, it would be nice if we played someone just as big or bigger at SG. Not to mention, we aren’t exactly strong at PG defensively yet. So the backcourt offers some levels of defense mainly in the open floor but is not good at all outside of that. Melo will likely improve defensively and he obviously has a size to do it. I think we have to start looking at bigger deals with Terry being the main asset to adjust our roster and starting lineup.

I'll be honest, this Miles situation has made me appreciate Terry even more. Dude has his head on straight, has shown leadership skills, and at times has carried this team.

I'm choosing to believe that Cliff will be a godsend for this team in its current situation.

imagine telling someone in 2019 right after we swapped Kemba for Rozier, that Terry would be the one adult in the room here

Dig a little deeper into his Twitter profile, likes, replies, etc and you may want to pull it back a little on the “has his head on straight” lol. Nothing terrible, but he’s certainly into Twitter porn and when a poster asked him about his thoughts on Miles his reply was “U the police?” Again, nothing bad but also not what I’d consider 100% straight either. Just something to be aware of I guess.

I appreciate what Terry has brought to the table and while we “won” the Kemba decision I do think making Terry such a focal point was very much a treadmill move. He’s a great supporting cast on a contending team. He’s not good for a team like this trying to break through IMO.

“See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil” is a motto NBA star Terry Rozier will clearly never forget … ’cause he just got it permanently put on his back in the form of a 3-foot tattoo. TMZ Sports has learned … the Charlotte Hornets guard wanted the three wise monkeys who symbolize the motto inked on him this month, so he hit up his go-to artist, Mike Miller. 3 hours ago – via TMZ Staff @ TMZ.com

First thing I saw was Terry's name and tmz. Thank God it was just about some tattoos

Pretty crazy he ranks 4th, and averages more ppg than 2nd and 3rd guy. He also has made 80 more threes than Trae over that time frame/ 1more game played.

one of the few players that actually manages to get underrated by fans on their own forums. I hated the Rozier signing when it happened, but he improved a ton over the last three years and is probably going to be our 2nd best player next season (factoring in Hayward missing his typical 20-30 games). I think it says a lot that given all the turmoil in this offseason I haven't once seen Rozier's named mentioned in a trade rumor from a legitimate reporter

He’s underrated because he’s a featured player, one of our biggest contracts and his ceiling is a streaky 20ppg scorer who needs to dominate the ball and doesn’t defend but is also undersized as a 2 and bad at being a 1. I’d say he’s rated appropriately. He’s the type of guy you add to finalize a contending roster not build one. He’d be a great fit on:

Lakers
Clippers
Warriors
Mavs
Toronto
Philly
Bucks

They acquired him to salvage losing Kemba for nothing because they wouldn’t have been able to sign him outright in free agency that season. It was a smart move and it paid off. Featuring him as team captain and top scoring option is where the mistake is.

I really think we need to move Terry. Maybe that’s in the cards for this season, it really ought to be. He is not a lead scorer on a good team. He’s an empty stat filler on a bad team. He can be a great 6th man on a contending team.

Just realized he is 6th in the league in FG attempts. 21 per game.

I realize he’s playing much more ball dominant without LaMelo and DSJ but this season has really exposed how I inefficient and one dimensional Terry is. If Mitch doesn’t want to move off of him then maybe the next GM will.

He's ideally a 3rd scorer or 6th man.

Which he was/will be if we can ever get healthy and Miles comes back.
