Onyeka Okongwu Out Six Months With Surgery On Shoulder

This kid has been injured a lot during his rookie season - hasn't he?

And now he's out until around Jan/Feb 2022?

If only Atanta could get a promising young big because of this, and have a good surprise to make Okongwu expandable in a Jokic/Nurkic way...

I do find interesting that the general view by fans (mostly here, but in GD as well) is that Wiseman is a trash prospect now, yet seem to maintain positivity towards Okongwu.

Got to think Giddey is in play at 10

Good trade for Memphis

We can trade Rozier for Hield to move up to 9 if we really want the same player as the Grizzlies. I wouldn't do that though.

I have to say I've been jealous of Memphis' frontcourt for a while. They downgraded from Valanciunas to Adams, but they still have Jaren Jackson, Brandon Clarke, and Xavier Tillman.

We have Vernon Carey. It's why we matchup horribly with them.

So that takes New Orleans out of the Myles Turner race

I like Valancciunas. Had a sneaky good season averaging 17 pts and 12.5 rpg but I'm glad we didn't trade 11 + next year's first for him

You gonna take the ball out of Morant's hands?

Neither one is a good enough shooter to play off ball. They're better served going after a guy like Kispert

Los Angeles has "stepped up its efforts" to trade for Hield ahead of Thursday's NBA draft, offering the Sacramento Kings a package that includes the No. 22 overall pick as well as Montrezl Harrell and either Kyle Kuzma or Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

I wouldn't have thought that Hield had this sort of value TBH.

It seems he's the Nored replacement. I wonder if we'll add another assistant coach to replace Nathaniel Mitchell who moved to Toronto.

Looks like Rod Boone will officially join the Charlotte Observer as Rick bonnell's replacement. It definitely seems like a logical replacement. Best of luck rod.

the logical pick to succeed Rick Bonnell. I think Rod's going to do a great job, glad he's got a stable gig after bouncing around, getting dropped by the Athletic after a very short time, doing his thing on substack and then working for the hollowed out husk of Sports Illustrated last season.

Boone has experience, connections, and continued to work covering the Hornets even after he was let go. He deserves the job at the Observer, what a fantastic hire!

Sounds like his firing had more to do with a toxic culture there, which was attributed to his leadership.

Something about an inappropriate relationship with someone internally as well lead to him getting the boot.

Zach Lowe, on Westbrook, cracked me up
Westbrook has never set more than 68 ball screens in any season, per Second Spectrum. He set 19 in Washington. Nineteen! Bismack Biyombo runs into his own ball handlers by accident at least that many times!

In preseason tier ranking, Zach Lowe ESPN+, has the Hornets with the Knicks, Bulls, and Grizzlies as "Threats to Escape the Play In: Varsity Division."

Fans of the Raptors, Wizards, and Pacers will be mad seeing Charlotte here. I get it. I have no idea how the Hornets cobbled a league-average defense while playing bundles of small ball, hemorrhaging rebounds, and allowing the second-most 3s (including the most corner 3s!) and fourth-most rim attempts.

That is some serious smoke and mirrors, and Charlotte's zone -- which they played more than anyone, per Second Spectrum -- sewed confusion.

They will likely play smaller even more often without a viable center behind Mason Plumlee. Lineups with P.J. Washington at center outscored opponents by about six points per 100 possessions despite god-awful rebounding; can that hold up?

But there is just something about this team. LaMelo Ball is real. He is a perfect fit with Washington and Miles Bridges, guys at the right age to make mini-leaps. (Bridges made a big one last season.) Gordon Hayward is healthy and with Kelly Oubre Jr. gives Charlotte depth and strength at the wing -- grist for small-ball groups.

These guys have a good spirit. Old and slow teams absolutely hate playing them. I smell something.
