As I do annually, I empty out my notebook from Summer League. This year was REALLY long, so we broke it up by conference. Here is the East!

@Smitty I am particularly heartened to read the phrase "being built" in this quote, presumably from a CHA team exec:

“We aren’t where we want or need to be. We recognize that. But we’re doing what we can to reset things. We have a great coach. We drafted guys in the first and second rounds who are going to compete. And our cap sheet clears up a lot after this season. We feel good about what is being built here.”

Good stuff, this Borego quote on Miles made me laugh: "Did you see him tell people he deserved no accolades after his rookie year? I mean, he was right, but most guys his age won’t own that."

Team executive on P.J. Washington: “Disappointing we didn’t get to see P.J. play here in Vegas, but we aren’t rushing the kid. We think he can be a really good four in our league. He’s got good size and ability to step outside. He fits well with our other young guys too.”

I'm still confused about the plan for Miles and PJ. The team has outright stated they want both at the 4, I get that they're complementary but to me it would make more sense to groom Miles more as a 3 with PJ as the future 4. Then when you go small you slide them to the 4/5, respectively.

Plus - in the short-term - the only starters we know for sure are non-shooters: Rozier, Miles, and Cody; and putting Bridges at the 4 takes your best spacer off the floor (Marvin).

I agree I don’t understand the coach says Bridges is best at PF, then the player we just drafted is being touted as a PF. It’s just one of many things that have made me question if we actually know what we’re doing. You can probably get enough minutes for both if they fulfill their potential long term, but I think it would put a lot of fans at ease if it felt like we weren’t just winging it. PJ feels like a knee jerk reaction when we couldn’t trade up or trade down.

The 3 and 4 positions are interchangeable. It dosen't matter which one Bridges plays as long as he can be a positive on both ends with whoever he shares the floor with. And the same is true of PJ Washington.

The key to modern team building is versatility. Which means guys who are capable of playing well with almost any combination of players.

Yes and no. Obviously Bridges is a 3/4 though and PJ a 4/5. While they complement fine I doubt we'll see a lot of "switching" with Miles moving up to 5 or PJ down to 3.

It's semantics I know, just odd the terminology we see being used. You can play multiple PFs (just look at the Knicks) but there's only one "4," so it's strange they seem to be pigeon-holing our most promising players into the same role.

My initial thoughts of reading the post was the same.
Can Miles play the 3? Yes
Is it his best position? Time will tell but probably not
Can PJ play the 5? Yes
Is it his best position? TBD

It will not be an ideal result if either of them really struggle playing out of position. The other possibility is PJ becomes a superstar at the 4 and we forget all about this. If Miles blows up at the 4 and and PJ can’t play the 5 it’s kind of a wasted pick.

I think both have a higher ceiling than anyone we’ve drafted since MKG. Poor guy just hit the league at an awful time, and bless him but I think he’s a fairly emotional guy with some unfortunate injuries.

I like the idea of big, long, physical wings that can easily switch 2 through 4, so I don't really have an issue with redundant players that could potentially fit that framework.

I feel like that's a different point... but one I agree with.
