Who should start?

Post#1 » by JDR720 » Sun Nov 10, 2019 3:09 am

So, this Rozier-Bacon-Miles-PJ-Cody lineup sucks.

Lets change it to Graham-Cody-Miles-PJ-Cody #2

Bacon is the only guy I'd like switched out, move him to the bench and start Monk. Our offense completely stalls when Bacon is on the court because he doesnt want to pass the ball.

My goal for this season is to develop players and not necessarily play our best lineup at all times. So for development purposes, I think the starting lineup now is fine.
The Charlotte Hornets will win their first round series against the Boston Celtics in the 2021 Playoffs

I hope Rozier doesn't continue to suck, so I don't have to listen to people rant about the contract

I'm so pissed WCS rejected us. We'd be so much easier to watch. The front court is really our greatest weakness.

Monk worked hard last night on his defensive assignments. He's playing within himself. If JB wants to greenlight him he will expand his game a little more. Currently he's being ask to play within himself.

Rozier - Monk - Miles - PJ - Biz

That's who I'd start.

I like the theory of Martin, but not sure he's ready yet.

Terry, Devonte, Mile, PJ, Cody Z would be my pick at this point.

I would stagger Terry & Devonte the way Houston did with Harden & Chris Paul last year. Devonte's playmaking and scoring are needed on that first unit.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

I'm not anxious to shake up the lineup just yet, as long as JB keeps giving minutes to the hot hand it really doesn't matter anyway. Now if he were like Cliff and locking certain guys into 35mpg regardless of performance just because they're 'the starter' it would be different. I'd give it 10 more games at least before making these changes.

-At this point I feel most strongly that Biz deserves to start over Zeller. It's strange because Zeller was great the first few games of the year so I hope he reasserts himself. Maybe being the first energy big off the bench will focus him a bit.

-If Bacon continues to suck then give Monk a shot with the starters.

-If Graham keeps playing this well he is clearly our best guard and should probably be the long-term starting PG. I'm a bit hesitant to send Rozier to the bench though because in the event Graham is our PG of the future we should really trade Rozier and a swift benching to start the year is not going to help that cause. For now I like Graham in the 30mpg backup PG role, in some cases finishing the game with Rozier. It doesn't bother me to not necessarily start our best 5, I've always believed there is a real tactical advantage to bringing one of your best best players off the bench and NBA teams don't exploit that nearly enough. That's the one advantageous Spurs thing (Ginobli's usage pattern) the league never really copied.

I just don't like Bacon. I'd drop him for Monk or Cody Martin at this point. They can at least participate in ball movement while Bacon is a black hole.

I agree with Ichiro that our best players so far have been Graham, Monk, Bridges/Martin, Washington, and Zeller. Those guys and Rozier, Marvin, and occasionally Biz should be the main rotation. I'd bury Bacon on the deep bench and give his minutes to Martin and Batum/MKG.

yep, I think I remember only 1 time Bacon has passed out of a drive and it ended up going out of bounds.

In his post-game interview, JB said he will be evaluating the first unit and that first and third quarters are costing them and they can't keep falling into a hole. He credited the bench with getting them back in games and winning games.

When I listened to his interview I got the sense he's about to make a change.

I don't think he will bump Terry. Bacon is about to be thrust from the rotation.

The starting backcourt will include Monk, Martin or Graham. I'm thinking since Graham leads the team in points and assists and plays big minutes, he's due for the promotion. I don't know how JB will stagger. But I do think Malik will be first sub for Rozier.

I'm thinking we will see

Graham - PG
Rozier - SG
Miles - SF
PJ - PF
Cody - C
Monk - 6th man

I don’t think they’ll do it because of the politics, but Devonte is our best PG and should be starting. Rozier can play along side him but then that removes a PG from the second unit.

Additionally, the Devonte + Monk backcourt has been fruitful. We should swap back courts. Devonte and Monk for Rozier and Bacon.

Agree with this 100%.

The question is who should start and without considering the bench it should be:

Graham-Rozier-Miles-PJ-Zeller

Taking the bench into account, I would go with:

Graham-Monk-Miles-PJ-Zeller

Won't happen and I like what Rozier provides in terms of perimeter defense to the starting unit but it's time to see Devonte vs. starting PG's.
