Meh, if we did it with a future lottery protected pick and no young guys going out I'd be down.

My first thought was "Again".
MKG + Biz and a 1st is all i'll do. He expires after next season.

Re: Rumor - We Want Drummond
Kupchak attended the Pistons game in Charlotte, for what it's worth. He pursued Drummond last season. Drummond is one year away from free agency, lowering the demands for a trade package.
I'd offer Rozier, Zeller and a protected first.

Re: Rumor - We Want Drummond
The Detroit Pistons, who CHA has been thumb-wrestling with for the 8th Playoff spot for what seems like forever, are 4-10, so let's trade for their starting Center, because obviously he is the missing piece to a playoff run, and it'll be great to pay him $30 Million a year before we can even clear Batum off our books, and we certainly don't need a Top 5 pick in the upcoming draft. Right? Right???

Re: Rumor - We Want Drummond
I'm not necessarily against adding Drummond as a FA next summer, especially if the market has tepid enthusiasm for bigs and we can get him at a below-max contract. He does check a lot of boxes where we are currently weak.
I have no interest in trading any future picks for him though, or even Monk. I would not offer anything beyond expirings (Biz, Marv, MKG) and a 2nd round pick. Drummond has some value, even if we have to sign him to a big extension, but he becomes negative value if we have to give him a big deal AND lose a 1st.

I trust Kupchak far more than you do. Pistons don't have a point guard. And they have Blake Griffin hogging the ball. Drummond can't do much more stat wise. He's the most dominant center in the game. Zeller is least dominant.
Maybe some here feeling nostalgic over Zeller the same way they clung to hopes of MKG being part of the future.
Whether Gasol or Drummond or Willie Cauley-Stein, Kupchak has made multiple efforts to put Zeller in the past.

Pistons literally just paid Rose and they've been loyal (which anyone can disagree over) to Reggie Jackson for years now. They have a point guard. Their record is due almost entirely to Griffin being out.
Griffin's played 3 games.
Also, Drummond does the exact same things that everyone was upset at Dwight about. Yes, he brings amazing rebounding to a team that needs it. He can't switch on anything, he takes absurd shots on a whim, he is easily flustered in games, and he's a turnover machine. You'd be banking on a huge shift in what he brings to the table and the money not making him complacent as well.
No one is losing sleep over Zeller anymore. Or anyone on the roster for that matter.

Re: Rumor - We Want Drummond
Drummond is the working man's center. Not flashy, shows up, and does what's expected. It will probably make us more of a iso type team since he doesn't shoot 3s or pass a whole lot.
At only 26 years old, getting a center of his caliber for his prime years, would be a huge victory for this team. Even if he doesn't work out, if there's a shot, we have to take it.

Re: Rumor - We Want Drummond
Don't see anyone defending Zeller or saying we need to hold on to him, not sure where that is coming from.
My biggest concern is Drummond's ability to not be a plodding center that gets burned in transition or on switches in the PNR. I do think he'd benefit from getting away from Blake and having an empty lane, and it would be really nice to control the glass.
I'm also kinda with Snidely though.

Re: Rumor - We Want Drummond
Okay well if Drummond is not our idea of an upgrade to Zeller, who is? If there are no solutions offered then I have to assume folks here are okay watching Zeller get carved up by every center in the league while our perimeter defenders never get bailed out and our helpers have to be on high alert constantly as opponents own the paint.
I'm not okay with it. Drummond averages 17 rebounds per game. We're last. Drummond is a rim protector. We give up more points in the paint than most teams. We have a young team that can get discouraged by being the last line of defense, on the perimeter. They are exhausted.
Drummond is an all-star. Zeller is a bench center. But we don't want Drummond. He's negative value. And we don't want to get rid of Zeller before the end of next year? Anyone want to do it?

There are often smokescreens for obvious reasons in this league (and in others). I can only hope the real target is Adams. If he could be added for a decent package (and no 1st but maybe Miles/Zeller +filler), count me in. As long as he is ready to sign an extension here ofc.

Big centers age a little more gracefully since they don't have to worry so much about quickness. I think there is little doubt that Drummond will be a strong starting center for at least 5 more years, barring any sort of injury. He's only missed a few games in his entire career.
Obviously, the NBA is trending away from guys who can't shoot from range so he's not as in demand as a guy like Kevin Love. I think the Eastern conference, you need a guy that can defend Giannis and Embiid. Drummond could be the answer.

Fair enough. I just think people are being a bit hypocritical and maybe even shortsighted regarding Drummond when the displeasure for a guy who had the exact same shortcomings was so pronounced.
I doubt he even gets us into playoffs - at best we'll have another late lotto draft pick to show for it with plenty of holes on the roster that still need filling before we're in a position to win on purpose again.
