In the 2018 draft I was thrilled that Shai Alexander was still available at 11 and we drafted him! Oopps... we traded him to get Miles Bridges. I questioned why then, and still do. Malik Monk in the house already? Not a good reason. Monk was another mistake that had not produced any fruits to believe he was the answer at SG (much less being a 6’2” answer at that).

This year SGA is producing (with a new team no less) at a prolific rate:
2019-20 SEASON STATS AVERAGES
PTS 19.8 (29th in league), REB 5.2 (95th), AST 2.8 (82nd), PER 16.83 (90th).
FG 45.5%, 3P 35.8%

This is a 21 year old 6’5” true SG who would have looked awesome beside Graham. Miles is OK, but he is not making the strides or showing the talent needed to be close to SGA’s promise. Will SHA be another Kobe level draft and trade. Nope. But this one is another pelt for the Hornets draft mistakes boneyard.

Would we still have Graham though? I was under the impression we used the 2nd we got via MIles/SGA trade to then move up later and grab Graham.

SGA definitely looks better than Miles but I'm not sure I'd prefer him to Graham + Miles, especially since without Graham our playmaking would be historically poor. Rozier/SGA back court would probably look really bad, not meaning to knock SGA because he's awesome in his role but having playmakers like CP3 and Schroeder is a part of what makes that possible.

I'd rather have SGA than Miles + Graham at this point. Also, Graham wasn't that sought after and they likely could have worked out a way to acquire him in the 2nd round regardless if they really wanted him that bad.

I'm far from ready to give up on Miles, but it seemed at the time of the draft that SGA was the better prospect and as we see more of them both its seeming more and more like he may be the better prospect by a significant margin.

The thing I can't get over is how he was also such a perfect fit on the roster for what they needed at the time (and now).

I'd trade miles and Graham for gilgeous-alexander in a nanosecond. He has star potential., I'm not sure Graham's ceiling is quite that high. Miles would be a complete afterthought in this reverse trade.

We also passed on Michael Porter. if he can stay healthy has the looks of a future Star as well.

Ideally we would have taken gilgeous-alexander and still find a way to come out of that second-round with graham, because the two of them would be perfect together.

Where are you seeing anything that says future star from Michael Porter?

Other than the serious long term injury concerns, he hasn't exactly done much this year.

Mostly empty stats by SGA. I'm intrigued by his potential, but in no way do I think he is playing like a star. And, if he is supposed to be a PG, a 2.8-2.0 ast/to ratio is pathetic.

Denver is in a position where they can bring him on as slow as possible. From the limited action I've seen, he's going to be a force to be reckoned with on the offensive end. He looks very defensively challenged though. And, I was 100% on board with selecting MPJ. It was a risk I thought this team should have taken.

Balling? Come on now. He does a good job at getting layups, but beyond that he's below average. I'd rather have Aaron Holiday, a guy that can do more than score layups.

Slam respect your perspective, but I would suggest no retrospection is no accountability. All organizations have to determine the effectiveness of their scouting and personnel decisions. Miles is good and I think is better than many of our lottery picks, but not sure why we didn’t stick with SGA. I think there is no question he is a better player than Miles, with a higher ceiling.

SGA seemed like an obvious fit next to kemba as well. He could’ve taken over the batum other ball handler role.

It seemed obvious to me at the time but I guess they fell in love with miles athleticism.

SGA would have been a good fit here. I liked the move at the time for Miles, but it's Devonte who has worked out really well. Devonte was a true longshot. SGA was much more of a sure thing. I think it's fair to judge Mitch on the draft & trade move, but I have a hard time being super mad about how things are working out right now.

Lol no draft made me more angry. We literally had SGA in our hands but then traded him for a dude with no discernable NBA level skills besides something. WOAT franchise right here.

No doubt bad trade in retrospect. That said, I don't think he would've developed as quickly with Kemba having so much in control of the offense, playing behind Lamb, and trying to salvage Monk.

it came out shortly after the draft that SGA wanted to be in LA (the only reason I am okay with him not being in CHA). the Hornets used that knowledge to extract two second round picks to move down one spot in the draft. as far as I can tell those two seconds were for '20 and '21 & haven't accrued yet, which means Devonte wasn't a byproduct of the deal; still maybe one of those forthcoming 2nd rounders will result in a player that will change the equation; one never knows do one?

The Mitchell Monk ordeal is the one that irks me, but hell we could do this all day long about literally every single draft.
