I was thinking the same thing.

Also, was the wrist injury his 1st major/major’ish injury (at least one that required surgery and an extended stint on the sideline)?

We forget that he’s still a kid, and kids think they are invincible until the first thing in their life happens that makes them question if they are invincible or not.

It can be a bit of a mind ****.

I can relate to this so much.
I've been questioning myself for this the past few years.

you know stuff like:

"Oh, my body continue to hurt longer after 1 day of basketball, it wasn't like this before".
"Oh, I went out friday, it's Wednesday and I still didn't really recover totally".
"Oh, this backpain isn't getting away as it used to...".

Is this the definition of getting older?

As long as he doesn't let the fame get to him and he continues to develop his skills then I'm okay the the cornball swag outward projection.

One of my bigger fears pre-draft was that the "Ball Circus" would be more important than basketball greatness. He's proven me wrong pretty much everywhere else

Yeah, I agree with Swedd. As long as he puts in the work and keeps the same positive attitude towards his teammates that we saw last year then that's all anyone can ask. He can dress however he wants.

Reading the article he just sounds like a typical 19yr old Zoomer to me. He'll grow older and wiser. His self-confidence is obviously through the roof, but he doesn't seem mean-spirited. Seems like a friendly kid who has the world by the tail.

I like how JB seems to be handling the situation based on info in the article. Seems like he's willing to meet Melo halfway and let the team have that 'swaggy' personality and he's willing to play along with youthful silliness too to an extent, but at the same time he's more firm on what really matters (learning to be punctual, studying film, etc). Probably the best way to handle it, imo, you can't lean on a prodigy like that too hard or they'll just totally tune it out. Gotta pick your battles.

From the ESPN article (https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/32039999/rare-lamelo-ball-explains-how-nba-fate-was-preordained):

On skipping college to play overseas:

"We not trippin' off school. We not dumb. We know how to learn. We don't need school. And school not even teachin' you s---, what the f--- is school?"

School is where one learns to speak and write.

Bwahahahahahahaha! Came to post the exact same thing.

I hate the way he speaks.
I hate the grills he often wears.
I think his clothes makes him look like an anorexic clown.

But, I’m old and he’s young and like the posts above me said: He seems like a really likeable kid who really loves basketball.
Our coaching staff and players love being around him and his energy.
He’s never done anything wrong off court (like shoot someone or domestically abuse a partner etc).
He’s a joy to watch play the game.

So what do I know?

Keep using words I don’t understand in Tweets on a platform I don’t like or use and point to your grills with your little finger and wear whatever clothing colour combinations you like - just keep being a good kid and providing joyful basketball for us to watch.

The most important part of that interview is where it mentions that he's been in Charlotte all summer doing tailored workouts and going to the gym at 2am. As long as he does that, stays out of trouble, and isn't a dick to coaches and teammates I don't care about how he presents himself to the world.

The less we get into random people's personal lives that we don't even know the better. All that does is encourage judgemental attitudes that make the world a less pleasant place to live in.

I don't mind flash and am glad Melo is happy living his life the way he wants. The only thing I'd say is it would be nice if he gave an interview to a national media publication that I wouldn't be embarrassed to show my kids.

We have one of the most exciting players in the league coming off winning Rookie of the Year and it seems like everyone here is so negative and stressed out. Go watch some LaMelo highlights and cheer up, kid is special and is going to take this team further than most of us and most NBA fans are expecting.

We have posted like 30 times about him in the last 3 months... hell Nick Richards and Jalen McDaniels are talked about more than our best player.

Good point, I think the “sky is falling” contingent gravitates to other threads so this one isn’t getting the juice it deserves. I think that Melo’s second season is going to be a lot of fun. I renewed my season tickets and sure as heck hope we get to go to games this winter. It’s super encouraging that he stayed in town to work with the team this summer too. high hopes ...

We’ve surrounded him with the correct pieces this year. He should put up around 22-7-8 if healthy. He and Bridges will control the highlights. Speaking of which, Bridges should put up around 24-8-4 himself assuming he picks up where he left off and continues to improve.

While I'm expecting good things from them, I feel like those are some unrealistic expectations from those two.
