I wonder if Kupchak could work out a Carey for Bagley swap. That would be poetic justice, I think...a Carolina guy trading two useless Duke players for each other.

He gets paid $11 mill, we’d have to up an oubre to match

Not worth it

Well, I was more for the irony than the reality. I'd just as soon keep Vern anyway. Can't stand pouters.

Plumlee and Hayward works straight up for Giannis. We could play him at the 5

Not a bad idea. Hard to see either team saying no

The real information that would be cool to know would be if Mitch is willing to part with Rozier or Hayward. Because if not, it feels like we won't be able to acquire anything more than a decent stopgap via a trade.

And if the choice was between those 2, I'm personally saying goodbye to TRo.

Just sign Cousins and try to swing a small trade for PJ Tucker so we can win a playoff series.

I really hope we can flip Washington for either picks or a young, but more established prospect. He really needs to stay away. It seems like whenever we start trying to play him, we lose chemistry.

That's because Washington's not a center. And there's not enough dog in him to play out of position.

I think the Hornets are learning that a severely limited Nick Richards is a better fit than a drifting square playing in a round hole.

Very much do not agree with the take that we are better served with Richards at the 5 compared to PJ.

Would love to see someone try to use some stats to support that argument.

Theis can start or be a better backup C and Tate is a solid bench player. Averaging 12/7 this season.

Houston get a better prospect and some half-decent stuff for Theis.

Ish is there for his contract.

Melo - Rozier (yep, I did it again)
Gordon - Bouknight
Martin - Tate
Miles - Oubre
Theis - Plumlee (or the reverse)

I think it makes us better. Ish is easily replicable, McDaniels is meh and we're doing fine without PJ. If anything, Houston can probably do better.

I’m not against trading Washington but I want a bit more than that.

I personally wouldn't trade McDaniels for Theis straight up, and definitely wouldn't trade PJ for him. That's a major sell low trade.

Speaking of the Rockets, how about John Wall if/when the buy-out happens.

Couldn’t agree more.

Can’t work out why some posters are so enamoured with players like Theis being some sort of upgrade.

A player like him would be a lateral move - at best.

The sample size would hamper such an analysis, don't you think? And my argument is that PJ would be better served at the 4. Lacking data points for that, too.

Theis is probably around neutral value, probably a 2nd... this is a wild overpay for either him or Tate, or both.

Plumlee and 2 2nds for Theis is probably something both teams should accept.

Trading Plumlee for another average center doesn't make the team better.

PJ is the only one in the trade from our end that has decent value.

Personally, I think McDaniels isn't anything special. Tate, IMO, is better than he is.

Tate would be our best perimeter defender, maybe best overall defender too. That's the main reason I added him to the deal. If we want to be a good team, we need someone besides Miles than can guard others teams top players.

https://www.houstonchronicle.com/texas-sports-nation/rockets/article/Jae-Sean-Tate-becoming-Rockets-stopper-on-16592478.php

Our defense isn't good and our centers aren't good. If we want to improve those situations, we have to be willing to trade something of value. We aren't going to trade any of Melo/Rozier/Gordon or Miles. Trading Plumlee is pointless. And I doubt we'd trade Kai or Bou. So that leaves PJ.

I’m also not holding my breath for a trade, I don’t see one happening in a hurry.

Prove me wrong Mitch
