and there we go...... Hopefully we can beat the injury riddled Pacers tonight without him but we may be headed for really bad stretch that shows how valuable Hayward is to this team.

Going off how long it took him to get over an ankle sprain, he'll probably be out with Covid for 2 months.

and I rest my case.....
Luckily he should be back this weekend and hopefully will be recovered enough to play well, we obviously sort of suck without him

Sigh...

I really enjoy Haywards game, but this is why giving him so much money was really iffy.

i mean, hes definitely injury prone but that one would have had any player out for a long time, don't even think Miles could have tanked that hit

Is the 9 of 21 referencing Gordo's shooting or his games played?

The Hayward signing and Batum stretch was a big fail at the time and it still is now. That's not even factoring in what could have been with a higher draft pick last year.

I'd be incredibly surprised if he plays another game this season.

It wouldn’t be a bad idea to tank the rest of the way. Ball and the kids aren’t ready to win consistently yet, we can keep our pick if it’s lower and may end up with New Orleans’s as well. 2 lotto pix coming in on fixed contracts is probably what we need anyway. Batum money gone next year too. We can trade Rozier/Oubre/PJ for a big now or later.

We have the stretch on the books for one more year after this year.

I know, I worded it oddly but I meant we wanted the 2 extra fixed rookie deals would help because of the remaining Batum money on the cap.

The team has been tanking for almost 20 years. I’ll pass. Lol

Factually, we have not. Our actual issue has been very rarely tanking when we should have.

After the loss to the Bulls, I asked head coach James Borrego why he believes the team's struggles are as bad as they are when he's (Hayward) not available.

“There's a number of things. I think big picture, he's just a steady presence out there for us. When there is a drought, when things are a little chaotic he can settle us down. He makes high quality decisions. That's the best thing I can say about him," Borrego said. "You take him off the floor, you're bringing in even more youth and inexperience into the equation and that highlights a little bit of our inexperience. And that's okay, that's just where we're at. When we get out of sorts a little bit offensively, we can put the ball in his hands and just settle the gym. And I've said this before, but teams would have to take one of their best defenders and put them on Gordon. That eliminates one of those guys going to Melo, to Terry, to Kelly. That pulls and stretches their defense a little bit. This is just a great opportunity for some growth here. As I've said the last couple days, we found Miles through this process. When you're going through it and other guys have to step up we're going to find some good, some growth. I liked Nick Richards today. There was a lot of positives from Nick tonight. I thought he impacted that game. That could be a bright spot for us through this patch. I do believe good will come of this”

It shouldn't have taken Hayward going down to find some burn for Richards

12-26 with out Gordon now
12-27 if you count the recent game he played 6 mins before hurting his ankle
31% win % w/out him... thats bottom 4 in league %

let me know when sample size is big enough for correlation

^ If this isn't a sign that we signed Hayward before the team was ready to actually do anything of note, I don't know what is. He's a good player, but this was an awful signing. Not tanking 2021 is looking like an enormous mistake unless Bouknight blows up

My sentiments exactly. We will never know for sure but there is a more than reasonable chance signing Hayward cost as an Evan Mobley/Jalen Green/Scottie Barnes or Cade Cunningham type talent/asset.

I'm so glad we got to witness the marvel of Indiana spanking us in the play-in tournament though. It was well worth it.
