it would be like an 18-year vet that's won 4 titles with one team and never missed the playoffs in his career, coming to Charlotte for one season prior to retirement. that would never happen

Big Phil's only 76, bring him in for a couple of years to get us over the hump lol. If only he was 10/15 years younger

I legitimately thought Phil Jackson was in his 70s when he retired from the Lakers 11 years ago.

I think we would all be excited with Cassell. However I can totally see D’Antoni, Vogel and Synder being the top options for Mitch.
I don't support domestic violence. Thanks Miles

I think my current top three are

1. Cassell
2. Snyder (if he's let go)
3. Larranaga

Like both Cassell and Snyder a bunch, agree that either would be a great pick up for this team. What makes Larranaga so appealing? He seems to have underwhelmed in his assistant stints, to the point that he’s been passed over for head coaching jobs.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Reading Oubres and Harrells comments just made me want them gone. Selfish players, who don’t contribute to winning basketball. It’s why they bounce around so much

Cassell really sounds interesting. What a thorn that guy was in that playoff series against the Bucks way back when (2001?). The closest we’ve ever been to the ECF.

Anyway, he might be ready but I’m wary about going with an unproven coach for this team.

I forget if this was discussed earlier, you guys have any interest in Nash if Brooklyn cans him?
basically going the D'Antoni route without committing to an old man

theres definitely some appeal to see what Nash could do with a LaMelo/Bridges as well as the other good young athletes we have
I think its pretty clear he wasn't ever put in a position to succeed from day 1 with the immediate undermining from Durant/Irving/Harden saying they didn't feel like they had a coach and that it was a collaborative effort or whatever

Adrian Griffin won the chip with Nick Nurse in TOR and has seen Nurse fit Barnes, Siakam, Anunoby, Boucher and Achiouwa while emphasizing defense all of which with the Hornets roster potentially burgeoning with long lanky guys 6'7-6'9ish could be valuable

First mention I've seen of off court immaturity by players as a reason. But we all know this is an immature bunch off Court. Good luck changing that behavior.

Yeah. Isn't the coaches responsibility to babysit grown men off the court.

cant wait to watch us hire some Boylen-tier hardass and watch the guys fold on both ends from day 1
at least it would save me 5 months worth of evening free time

There wasn't a lot of accountability on-court for sure. Off court is tricky. As a guy that's managed a sizable team for umpteen years, it's often been my responsibility to deal with out-of-office behavior. I've had staff addicted to online gaming nodding off at their desk during the day because they game all night, regularly roll in so beat up from partying they couldn't effectively do their job, burned out from moonlighting, dealing with tricky family situations, etc. It's a long list of 'off court' issues that were impacting 'on court' performance. They've all been grown men and women (typically mid 20's to early 30's), yet their home lives still needed to be addressed and managed to some degree (sometimes with a carrot, sometimes with a stick) or my business would suffer. Dealing with this stuff wasn't/isn't necessarily in my job description but if I don't our team dynamic implodes.

Larranaga Pros (IMO and not in any particular order)

- Not a retread
- Not too young, not too old at 47
- Born in Charlotte
- Played all over Europe for a decade, so presumably both cares about and has contacts in foreign scouting
- Has experience coaching in Europe, D-League, and 10 years as an assistant
- Comes from good stock (I consider Jim Larranaga to be a very good coach)

What's Richard Vernon up to these days?

Bring him in as head coach.

He wouldn't put up with players causing a ruckus.

He'd come in here and crack some skulls.

If they tried to mess with the bull, they'd get the horns.

And if Bouk went at him like Bouk went at Borrego, Richard Vernon could say:
That's the last time, Bouknight.
That the last time you ever make me look bad in front of those kids, you hear me?
I make $31,000 a year and I have a home and I'm not about to throw it all away on some punk like you.
But someday when you're outta here and you've forgotten all about this place and they've forgotten all about you, and you're wrapped up in your own pathetic life, I'm gonna be there.
That's right.
And I'm gonna kick the living **** out of you.
I'm gonna knock your dick in the dirt.
