I think D'Antoni would be great for this team. He will have all the horses and can let them loose in a controlled, creative way.

Looks like we are going with D'Antoni

I bet he coaches for a year or two then takes over the GM role from Kupchak, promotes the lead assistant he ends up with
I don't support domestic violence. Thanks Miles

LaMelo is about to become an MVP candidate.

D'Antoni plus a defensive ace lead assistant/successor-in-training like Sweeney works for me.

I agree with those who are saying D’Antoni with a strong, young, defensive minded lead assistant. I’m wondering who fits that bill now that would be willing to come to Charlotte.

DAntoni wasn’t my first choice, but he has had success.

I wouldn't hate Dantoni, just because I think he can take LaMelo to the next level.

However, the national media never seems too clued into what we are doing and wouldn't be shocked if we still went another direction.

I'd love this. Never been a fan of MDA.

If we go by the 1 year coaching + succession scenario, he's only a few years older than Mitch so he's not a viable long-term option for the GM spot.

Team needs to be better at defense and fundamentals and to grow organically with its youth so hires MDA. That would be so typical of this franchise. Big name. Box Office. Stupid. Frustrating

Aside from D, you know what is a problem long term? LaMelo complaining about Borrego's coaching and how the offense was run. If Borrego wins a bit more and makes the playoffs, then that's probably fixable to. But he didn't, so it's clear that something needs to be done here.

Mike D'Antoni is a decent choice to try to fix that.
My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

MDA's defenses haven't been that bad, no? Anything is better than what Borrego schemed. We just need to be league average.

It's more about the players buying in. They just didn't try with JB.

Yeah, that was kinda my thought. I'm assuming maybe it's a reference to pulling out of rebuilds early with Big Al then more recently with Hayward, but I don't really think those were box office moves.

I don't think we've ever been in a position to make a splashy head coaching hire even if we wanted to.

I'll never get over Higgins hiring Dunlap because he watched a damn St John's practice and was impressed.

Definitely gonna see if all the anti Borrego guys were right about him being a bad coach.

From a pure experimental level, I'm okay with it

my apologies for being confusing. D'Antoni is a big name. But what I was referring to by Box Office was Bouknight's comment last year that with him and Lamelo the team was going to be Box Office, as in must see tv. The teams personnel decisions since drafting Lamelo all seem a nod to the same thing. Let's field an exciting team. Play as fast as possible. Run people off the court. Outscore everyone. Must see tv. Nothing wrong with that, unless the team can't defend or do the other things it takes to win when it matters. Mgmt seems to want this team to be like D'Antoni's 7 Seconds Or Less Suns. But this roster is not those Suns. That's what I mean by its typical of this franchise. Their idea of how the roster can perform, and what's deficient in the roster, doesn't always jive. Last offseason they could have used a 3&D wing but instead signed gunner Oubre and drafted an iso scoring guard. This spring they needed defense, so they signed IT and Montrzl. It's almost as if the team can't see where the deficiencies are, because all they care about is the excitement generated playing run and gun. These current roster guys know how to play fast, it's practically all they know, so I guess that makes them a match for D'Antoni? But why not bring in a coach who will teach them to defend and rebound and stuff that will help them win, unless the lack of those kind of fundamentals isn't seen as a problem?
