Well I found my reason to watch summer league. No clue if this kid is NBA material or not, but I love me some finesse based guards, even if they'll are inefficient (Jamal Crawford is one of my all time favs). I mean I was jumping for joy at the Bouknight pick last year, and you know what!? I still am. F BORREGO!
Your Charlotte Hornets! We’ll eventually get something right;right?

Malaki Branham hung 35 pts on him when they went head to head

at any rate, as with Kai you can see unique upside potential based on his height and length but it will be 3 years before he is NBA ready

Well from the videos i have seen, Bacon would have dreamt to be able to dribble and finish from both hands like this guy. And i pass on the faints/fake moves/acceleration etc.
Offensively he seems really legit. No clue about the playmaking skills though.

otoh defensively that's another story.

He might be what Hornets thought Monk would become with better size.

Mitch hits on 2nd rounders better than just about anyone in the league. I'm optimistic about him.

We'd have our guy if we just sew he and Scottie Lewis together.

Having two 5 star wings as developmental projects isn't bad at all. McGowens can drive and finish with both hands, if Scottie Lewis could do that he would have been taken in the lottery last year.

I like that we keep taking shots in the 2nd round, really all you can ask for.

Didn't know a thing about him before last night because I didn't follow college as much this year, but from everything I've seen and based on the numerous drafts I've followed, he's worth a go. I like hungry guys who can create shots and I'm a big fan of guards who can 1) get to the line and 2) actually make their free throws.

Mitch isn't infallible, but he knows a thing or two about finding guys who get paid in the 2nd. See: Clarkson, Jordan (>$100 million aggregate contracts) and Graham, Devonte' (>$40 million). Bryce has his shot, now he gets to make the most of it.

He also drafted Beverly, Zubac, and I think you can add Cody Martin to the list as well as guys from the 2nd who will get non-rookie contracts.

Yep. And don't forget McDaniels too. Kup's eye for talent is undeniable.... and his decision to trade #13 for future inferior assets undeniably stupid

I'll trust Mitch in the 2nd given his record. I watch highlights and see a SG/SF version of McDaniels. I agree that this pick is a good 2-3 years out.

Maybe I am not remembering right, thought you were always preaching about guys with low free throws are red flags.

I've said that.

It was George Karl's rule with Anthony when he was a force in Denver and he wanted to shoot more 3's Karl would say something like "get me four buckets in the paint, four buckets at the line and then you can take one three point shot".

I want players who get to the line because it gets your team easy points and puts the opposing team in foul trouble.

having no idea really about any of the prospects after vowing to save my energy for after they've been drafted, I was all ready to make a joke that McGowens was just another Grant Riller after a few highlights videos.

but I think he's substantially better than Riller. maybe similar play styles as drive-first-but-fine-I'll-drain-the-jumper-if-I-have-to players, but McGowens is quite a bit more polished with NBA-ready tricks, like his step-back, switching hands on layups, drawing contact, nifty little euro steps in the paint, and things like that. I'm feeling him as a legit prospect.
