Probably the wrong thread for this, but man its so doom and gloom.
I am sorry that it has been a rough few months, but I am not sure what fans are expecting?
Our franchise player has played in 3/18 games.
Our 2nd best player is on an unofficial ban and missed 18 games
Our 3rd best player (Rozier) has already missed 7 games.
Cody Martin has missed every game.
Hayward has missed 8 games.
That is 66 games right there out of 18 opportunities. Do we think Borrego would be doing better? How about Kenny Atkinson? Fans thought Borrego lost locker room and players weren't being professionals.
Clifford hasn't been great, but tough to really blame him. What more would you want from him up until point? He continued to play Bouknight even though he struggled, which is probably better than just being old cliff and benching him. He has developed Nick Richards much better than Borrego. Clifford has revived Dennis Smith Jr career and might actually turn into a guy that plays until he is 30 now. What is it? Are we really mad that Mark Williams isn't playing? It is not even 20 games into his career so not sure I care that much. He has dominated the GLeague, so its hard to say he is awful pick. His time is coming.
Being bad and trying to draft a young star in the top 3 is the clearest path to contending and it's not even close. LaMelo is 21, so developing another star that is a year or two younger than him makes a ton of sense vs trying to patch this thing over. I was all for trading for Donovan Mitchell, but we clearly didn't have enough assets. So now we have to be patient, be smart, draft well, develop our young guys and be disciplined in trades/FA.
Play LaMelo 30-40 games this year and just hope the ping pong balls like us. Him and Wemby would actually be title team good.

I don't think too many people are frustrated at Cliff specifically. The idea of rehiring your own retread is just pretty unpalatable for most. I personally think he's done a reasonable job so far given the injuries. I particularly like that he seems to place some emphasis on defense, unlike Borrego who let the kids and the vets basically just conserve energy on that end so they could try to outscore the other team.
I place more of my frustation in the direction of MJ and Kupchak, who have pretty much laid egg after egg since hitting the third pick lottery jackpot in 2020. Signing Hayward, stretching Nic Bum, awful 2021 draft. Awful trade of the 13th pick in the 2022 NBA draft. Mitch has also never really been a creative trader and seems to be reluctant to make in season trades.
If he's not drafting good prospects given his other limitations Mitch has no business being a GM.
