This seasons injuries.
Figured I'd make a list of injuries for this season for the fun of it. The only players who haven't missed time are Black, Thor, Miles (not counting suspension) and Ish. This is only stuff that shown on the injury list, so Terry getting whacked in the face and Miller getting ran over by Oubre aren't on here.
LaMelo - Sprained ankle on Nov. 26th,missed a month +.
Bouknight - Injured Knee October 11th.
Bryce - Injured ankle on October 24th
Frank - Broke his leg October 21st, hasn't played this season.
Terry - Injured his groin in November, thumb and got sick in December.
Jr - Injured his ankle December 8th (in the G-league)
Gordon - Injured hamstring in November (twice), got sick and injured his calf in December.
Martin - Missed most of season with his knee. Then came back and hurt his groin in January.
Miller - Injured his ankle 3 times in November/December. Hurt his back in January. Also got sick.
PJ - Injured his shoulder, foot twice and ankle.
Mensah - He missed a game because he's too dangerous to be allowed in Canada.
Richards - He had a concussion in November.
Mark - Rumor has it, he had his spine removed on accident.

The fact that we’re looking at Mark missing 63 games and 4 1/2 months for a 4- to 6-week injury is wild.

We've diagnosed NSJ with a common head cold. When he gets off the respirator in 3 weeks, we hope that after a sustained course of arduous rehab, he might regain the use of his left arm.

There have been so many injuries that you have to wonder if something more is going on.
Has management told the team, doesn't look like this is our year don't rush back if your body isn't right?
Are guys just milking it for some extra vacation? Lets face it, there are to many games in the season, nobody likes travel, and they get paid even if they miss games, practices ect.
Are the players protesting our backwater organization, that hires a retread lower tier coach?
One thing is for sure. Guys haven't bought in to the belief that we can win under Clifford, and there is no real reason for them to do so.

I’m guessing the “sick” might be COVID by the way it spreads and knocks players down. They’ve probably been asked not to use the term COVID because of the hysteria and crappy press it draws

Seriously, SOMEBODY WHO IS PAID TO COVER THIS TEAM needs to ask, no, DEMAND an answer to this.
I’m not convinced anyone on this team is sandbagging intentionally. However, I doubt they are being rushed into service at this point. Clifford the dog did make the comment that Miller played being sick when some players might not do so. Could that be a statement on how his other players approach returning?
I do know this is the most unlucky team in NBA history.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Haha looking at Gordon's injury history (just this year), famously slow recoveries and his lethargy in general it's wild some people on this board would be happy bringing him back next year on the MLE.

What annoys me is the lack of transparency at every turn. “Mark has a sprain.” Rod Boone, whose job is solely Hornets PR hack and Twitter/X confrontation specialist, tows the company better than some of their actual PR people. Said Mark got an MRI and all but no update on what that MRI said. That sort of tells me it said nothing.

Clifford was on WFNZ a day or two ago and said Mark won’t be back “anytime soon.”
Bro is really gonna miss a season-plus for a 4-6 week injury. I wanna know what the hell is going on.

His spine was taken out, he's a blob right now.
What I want to know is how teams qualify for injury exceptions.

Re: This seasons injuries.
I don't want to assume he's either faking it, or there's serious structural damage. However, 99.99% of lower back contusions, per Milwaukee-based Ascent Chiropractic, completely heal in 6 weeks.
This is Week 6.
There's at least 6-8 more weeks coming. I want to know why. At 21 or 22, you don't just recover 20% and then stagnate for a year. That flat-out does not happen.

Steve Clifford, as I said above, said "Mark's not coming back anytime soon."
"Soon" would be 2-3 weeks. Considering most guys suit up and go 35 minutes after 4 weeks, we're at Week 6, there's been zero progress. He's not practicing, he's doing the lightest possible work and, per Cliff again in this WFNZ interview, "He's doing all he can but the treatment's just not working."
6-8 weeks is actually optimistic. A realist would say we'll see him mid-November.

Re: This seasons injuries.
So medically speaking, if it was TRULY a contusion, but is still causing debilitating symptoms leading to further MRI testing, they suspect other damage. If it was structural (vertebrae/disc) they should have found that weeks ago. If they find nerve damage that is very troubling, and can only improve with lots of rest and rehab. But, to take this long, it is MORE than a contusion. Agree he is likely done for the season…and should be given their crappy record. I’m more than ready to fire Mitch, hire the new coach and tank like a submarine with screen doors.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Re: This seasons injuries.
I spoke with a friend of mine who is more in tune with the team than me (absolutely not Rod Boone) and he said Mark was apparently in a lot of serious pain in early-mid December. Rod Boone's 500-word press release with zero substance on Jan. 2 included a Mark quote saying "I feel like I have a pretty good pain tolerance. But right now, I can't go. I just can't."
I'd like to know what injury causes that because the deeper I dig into this, the more I'm thinking it's actually not a back contusion. I mean, Brandon Miller's ankle injury was revealed to be an illness. The league needs to look into this franchise's appalling lack of injury-related transparency. I'm not asking for a detailed recovery plan.
I AM asking for the team to be on par with its 29 counterparts in being transparent and up-front. Bill Belichick's like that because 1) he can be, 2) no one would dare tell him not to be, and 3) it was a competitive advantage. There's no competitive advantage at play here. This is unacceptable from a diagnosis and a transparency perspective. And that's not even getting into Mitch's "Well, the draft is over, so that's the end of my work til next June!" BS. Wonder why you give up 70 PIP every night? Probably because you've got CBA-caliber centers and you refuse to even look into some 10-days to bolster the lineup.

So, Mark mentioned he got an MRI right after the Toronto game "for the sprain, strain, whatever."
But he did not say what the MRI's results were. A back sprain never -- never -- costs a guy a full season.

Re: This seasons injuries.
Adding to this, the fact they listed him as Doubtful for 4 consecutive weeks before moving to Out tells me it's not gotten better. It's gotten worse. So, what the hell made it worse, if he's not practicing or even doing light work? That's what lends credence to the belief that the training staff is so awful that saying "they suck" is a gross understatement. You had Cody Martin's knee getting infected, now Mark's hurt worse in his recovery than he was covering Pascal Siakam. Someday, this will get out from under the rug.

Hopefully they are just being cagey about releasing info for whatever reason and its not that they just didn't figure out what the problem was.
It would be disgraceful if this joke medical staff misdiagnosed another injury and ended up screwing up Marks back.

But there's no logical reason to be cagey about this. In every conceivable end result, it's a negative for the team (not that "no logical reason" doesn't define Charlotte pro sports).
Not being up front about it means:
1) the player can't play, which he's paid to do
2) all that missing game time hurts his value
3) said missing game time costs the team wins
4) in the case of guys like Hayward, it tanks trade value.
So, you've got 4 possible reasons, and they all make the team worse. We need to know.

I've been thinking for a while it's actually spine or nerve related. Just a hunch. Puts him in Michael porter Ben Simmons territory.
