DRAFT DAY THREAD 2024

Post#1 » by Bassman » Wed Jun 26, 2024 11:56 am

All right, couldn’t wait any longer, so let’s celebrate and kick it off. IT IS DRAFT DAY!

Why is this a holiday for Hornets fans? We are long suffering people, laboring our lives away while trying to enjoy basketball beyond college with our own NBA team…a team that rewards us in frustration. Yet, despite the setbacks, face plants, coaching carousel and stupid owners, we look to the DRAFT AS OUR HOPE FOR THE FUTURE. And this year, it’s like SPRINGTIME! We have new ownership, a new front office with Jeff Peterson and a new head coach! Yes it is a “weak” draft, but there are almost always diamonds discovered amongst the coal, so LET’S GO GET OUR BLING TONIGHT!
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

if there's anything the Celtics win and the Bridges trade highlight its the value of a two-way wing. I'm hoping for one of those this draft day

Here are my draft morning thoughts and musings;

> Houston is going to deal away their pick…nearly guaranteed. They want a vet star type NOW, and will trade this pick and others they acquired via their deal with Brooklyn to get someone. What team then controls the pick? Who knows….but it will pivot the draft.

> I think the Hornets do like the Sheppard/Castle/Knecht trio as a target group, but don’t underestimate the possibility of taking Clingan or Buzelis if one of them is there next to Knecht. As much as I like Dalton, Matas has a lot of potential with size that is appealing. And Clingan is a super solid pick who could solidify our center rotation for years.

> Should Clingan slip to 6 we will receive a number of tempting trade back offers. Proceed carefully grasshopper….
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

My conclusion is that I don’t really care who we draft, just develop them properly. I could talk myself into or out of any of the dozen guys mocked near us

I think we should all make it a point to post who our pick is once we're on the clock, would be fun to come back in the future and see how bad we all messed up.

Yeah, that Smart and #9 for #3 seems like one of the likeliest moves to happen. If Clingan falls, I hope Memphis still sees the charm and we can swing the same with #6. One or more of Knecht, Holland, Salaun, Carter, Williams is a lock to be there at #9.

True story. In the 80's in Charlotte, basketball was such a thing that at my high school they let the AV folks roll in TVs to the classroom so we could have the ACC tourney playing off to the side (without sound, granted).

Just saying - maybe your conference could accommodate?

NBA ain’t that popular here and very little sense of humour with my management

I have a feeling Cody Williams is a sleeper pick for us.

I wish us luck. I woke up having a feeling we end up with Knecht tonight. I’ll hope for the best lol

This is one of the best days of the year for NBA fans, especially guys like us who stick by a perennial losing team no matter what. Ride or die, let's go Hornets!

Setting my analysis of these prospects aside, because let’s be honest, this is not a draft for sure things, it’s guesses, and bets, and leans at best…

This is the first real inflection point of the Peterson/Lee era. Bridges is the second. Usually we’d have some inkling of what they’re looking to do but because the regime is new we don’t have a clue.

I’m looking to this pick as a sign of the direction of emphasis rather than trying to predict it. I want to like Peterson. Make a good pick man.

I guarantee this is going to be very, very wrong but here's how I think the draft order will go down tonight:

1) Hawks take Risacher
2) Wizards take Sarr
3) Rockets take Clingan and trade back with MEM
4) Spurs take Reed Sheppard
5) Pistons take Buzelis

We take Castle.

This sounds about right.
