So far this season:
- Mark is out until the end of time with a back/foot issue.
- Nick Richards is out because of a shoulder.
- Miller missed some games with a glute.
- Melo's ankles have been sore (but hasn't missed a game... yet).
- Miles has a bone bruise.
- Grant has lower back soreness.
- Jefferies (who hasn't played) has a broken hand.
Think we're just cursed.

I don’t get why we’re carrying a 27 year old SG with a broken hand that I don’t even know who the hell he is. Seems uh, not ideal

Absolutely this. A source of frustration for sure. Jefferies sucks - pure and simple. He's not a prospect like Rhoden, he's redundant, he's injured. Zero reason why he's not Biz, Javale, etc.

Jeffries is being kept because his salary can be used for matching purposes. The instant you cut him, you lose that use.

If we wind up using his salary in a trade, I'll give you a crisp dollar bill.

It is amazing how poorly this team handles the game relative to health. Bad luck? Don't believe in luck long term. Training staff? They just added a veritable MASH unit under this new regime…I guess to handle all the wounded from battle (I thought they were going to better condition these players).
Seriously, how many teams experience this level of injuries year after year?

The matching rules are tighter now, especially for the 2nd apron teams. Even a small gap may need to be filled. We would have to block our way, or bundle to get to a match on one of their players, because their team cannot bundle/aggregate to get to one of our more expensive contracts.

No, I get it. Was being cheeky - not holding my breath by any means, but would be very happy if his salary proved valuable in trade.

Yeah it's all hypothetical but was farting around with the trade machine and tested one permutation using Jeffries.
Micic + Jeffries = 10.1 million.
Hornets can absorb a player earning as much as 17.6 million in the trade.
Micic + Jeffries + Nick Smith Jr = 12.7 million.
Hornets can absorb a player earning as much as 20.2 million.
Quick search gives me Vucevic at 20 million.

Despite it sucking for us, I would point out there are 5-10 other teams who are just as banged up as we are right now.
Pelicans-
Z. Williamson GTD
F T. Murphy GTD
G J. Hawkins OUT
F H. Jones OUT
G C. McCollum OUT
G D. Murray OUT
Memphis-
G J. Konchar GTD
G D. Bane OUT
F GG Jackson OUT
G Ja Morant OUT
G M. Smart OUT
G C. Spencer OUT
F V. Williams OUT
Sixers- No Embiid, Paul George hurt, Maxey just went down
Hawks- No Bogi, No Hunter, No Bufkin, Dyson missed time.
Plus several teams without best player
Magic- Paolo, Clippers- Kawhi,

Magic- Paolo, Clippers- Kawhi,
Pacers lost two centers, Pistons have Duren banged up. It's only been 2 weeks and the state of the NBA is pretty injured. AD looks like he's going to be managing a foot injury all season too.
I think the issue here is, we already had no depth so now we're back to looking for help off the streets.

The NBA is heading towards a 60 game season where teams play 2-3 games a week. The injury rate is too high and it is causing the product to be too bad.

The injury prone players will still play 40 games or less a year.
Some of it is probably that players might be too athletic for their own good.

There was an article I read recently with Larry Johnson in it saying how the current player-base relies too heavily on athleticism and a lot of them never learn or practice the fundamentals. He said when he injured his back, he had to re-invent himself from a guy who could run, jump and dunk over people to a player that used more fundamentals to be effective. I agree with him, even though that sounds like a boomer take. The athleticism is great but damn, gotta learn the basics to really last in the league.

yeah i think it's the extreme starting, stopping, side to side movements that do a number on the legs. The guys that stay on the floor despite being super explosive just have awesome body control like LeBron

SI brings up 3 centers we could sign. (spoiler: it's not very encouraging, but it's something
https://www.si.com/nba/hornets/news/3-pursuable-nba-big-man-targets-for-the-hornets-to-replace-mark-williams-and-nick-richardsThe Charlotte Hornets have been bit by the injury bug in the early aughts of the 2024-25 season, and it turns out that a previous bite is going to sting a little bit longer. On Tuesday afternoon the team announced that backup turned starting center Nick Richards will be unavailable longer than originally anticipated.
Expect the team to make a move to fortify their interior in the coming days. Charlotte's size has been decimated due to the injuries to Williams and Richards, and now that the former Kentucky Wildcat's absence is deemed to be longer-term than expected, Charlotte needs to add reinforcements to their stable of big men.

Zion has been absolute fools gold for Pelicans. Sucks for them.
