Hard to ignore his shooting, range, and positional size. Raises his floor a lot.

Tre is a quality shooter with good size, but he will need to show some improved handle and defensive presence in his workouts. His finishing at the rim was below average. Combined with his average D, he could be one dimensional at the next level.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Share some of the concerns, but think you're underselling by calling him a "quality" shooter.

Maybe, but Tre will be 4 years younger when drafted and posted similar stats as a true freshman, compared to Knecht who I believe was a 5th year senior. He seems to have substantially higher upside simply based on that.

only if we pass up on him for a complete bum and then try to correct the mistake by trading one of our few starting level players for him at the deadline

Good points of difference, wasn't considering the age difference, just wondering how to vaguely view the hypothetical archetype Johnson fits into. Is defense less of a concern?

So Tre isn't this year's "walking bucket"?

Really like Tre, one of my top choices. 20 ppg with 40% from deep is very impressive for a freshman when he is the best player on his squad and opposing defenses are putting all thier focus on him.

You can never have to much shooting, that is always going to fit well with other pieces.

LaMelo
Tre
Brandon Miller

That would give us 3 guys who can be deadly catch and shoot 3 pt threats and close to 90% from the ft line.

Hate his lack of rim pressure and defense

If we draft him we’ll have 3 skinny string beans on the perimeter whose only skill is 3 point shooting

Tre Johnson is the best shooter available at 4.
- I know people might say Kon, but them shooting off the dribble is nowhere in the same conversation.

Kon 3/21 on off dribble threes.
Tre 38/99 on off dribble threes.

These comments from the tournament really soured me:

JustBuzzin wrote:Johnson chocked in crunch time. Took a 3 didn't get back on defense which led to a and 1 layup and the foul committed by him. Low IQ play.

Then he missed a contested 2pt shot late that would have tied the game. He doesn't look to get his teammates involved at all. One trick pony.

Maybe if we had the #26 pick I would consider him.

Snidely FC wrote:Tre Johnson shot Texas out of that game the last few minutes and the way he sulks when they don’t pass to him I am not a fan

JustBuzzin wrote:One trick pony.

He's a good microwave scorer off the bench. Not someone I would draft as a starter. His basketball IQ was very low in crunch time. Not getting back on defense after a contested 3 was awful. Then he committed the lazy foul which led to a and 1.

Nope we don't need that mentality on this team.

and yet, I'm finding myself settling for him, probably ahead of Ace as he can shoot.

My early uneducated favorite is this guy. Absolutely elite shooter and solid length and athleticism. He played basically his whole season at age 18 so lots of upside there and he has time to bulk up, which will help him improve his ability to attack and finish.

he'd love the 3 point chucking offense, feels like that's all we would do.

Uggg settled on VJ or Ace if he falls, but Tre's measurements made me reset everything.

If he puts on weight, then he has the physical tools to be a great defender, but that's always a big if in the NBA.

Logic says VJ would be the mature, safe, comfortable pick next to Melo and Miller, but when you consider both their injury history, it makes it very tempting to try to draft another player similar to them in Johnson.
