Fears wants the ball in his hands a lot to try and score. He used his speed and handle to get his shot, but I really don't like the mix with this team.

- a bit worried about his size after seeing combine, but he shot it alright today and athletically it appears he is testing out well.

Would be my pick if I was GM.

Not sure the Hornets are thinking point guard tho. We shall see.

That’s not quite fair to Fears. Terry was a truly unique case of a guard who strove to make his stats look as good as possible without making anyone better in the slightest. Fears has some playmaking chops at least and isn’t as selfish as Terry (nearly no one is). However I do agree he’s more combo guard than pure point.

He’s a great option if we were to trade down from 4. I’d be happy with him at the 7-10 range. Just not a real consideration at 4 with the wings available.

Wow that Terry slander, tough for a guy that at times was depended on to carry our team.

Oklahoma wasn't close to a tourney team this year, Fears had to do so much for that team and his stats are down because of that. Would instantly be the best guard on Utah, Wizards, Brooklyn or Toronto. Vecenie is down on him but listening to his youtube channel consistently mention teams passing on him because Quickley, Bub or Collier is strange analysis for a guy that I think is normally a bit plugged in.

The way Vecenie and his pod co-host do their mock drafts drive me nuts and imo doesn't reflect at all how teams actually draft. They act like every team removes like 75% of the players from their board based on whether or not they are good fits with the current iteration of their roster.

The last time I was listening to one of their mock episodes I almost turned it off when they said Washington can't draft Fears because he can't play with Bub Harrington.

Ive also seen Vecenie saying recently that he thinks some of the PGs in this draft could have a huge fall because there are no teams in the 8-15 range (roughly, can't remember off top of my head) that need a PG. Maybe things will change a bit with the new CBA, but this is just not how teams have drafted in recent years.

Overall, I like Sam's content because it is a good mix of chatter from scouts/teams/coaches mixed in with his film analysis. However, the format of the show is just not that intriguing, his co-host never gives him pushback and it feels like he is constantly trying to sound smart by repeating exactly what Sam said just in a long round about way. During their mocks sometimes Sam just bullys the selection even when it is co-host turn on the clock lol

for the record, im almost completely out on fears, even if we moved back a few spots
we dont need another skinny, poor shooting, score first, combo guard, with questionable defense. he's a luxury pick you let develop on your bench for 2 years to see if he can bulk up and learn to shoot. the rim pressure is great, but too many question marks.

Agree. If Fears becomes a complete all around PG in the NBA, good for him. Just not worth a trade back scenario for the Hornets (frankly doubt many deals are worth dropping from 4).

Will be interesting to see if we work out Fears.

Something tells me he's gonna be a star in this league. I think his jumpshot will improve over time. He's the best shot creator in this class by far.

You can tell he is working really hard to add muscle to his frame, not even 19 yrs old yet.

The selling point for Fears on the Hornets IMO would be..

We already have guys that can shoot the ball in Melo, Miller and Miles. I think Fears will be a fine shooter if teams choose to leave him open, but the selling point would be his ability to get downhill and force the defense into rotations which would open up more shots for Miller, Melo and Miles. His fit with LaMelo isn't seamless but if you have two guys that can share the offensive engine burden, I think Fears could be a Dennis Schroder kind of defender that picks up the ball handler 94 feet and applies pressure, he is a good athlete who is really quick.

Fears can play that Jeremy Lin role of playing 25-30 mins off the bench next to and behind LaMelo even starting some. Size wise it would be pretty similar to what we had with LaMelo and Rozier so maybe not ideal but workable.

Rafael Barlowe put out a new intel piece today.
"Fears is hot right now. It’s a point guard league, and he has the most star potential or upside to be a lead guard who can run your team. I honestly think his draft range is anywhere from 2 through 5. I don’t know if he’s going to be around at No. 7 for the Pelicans. I know they would love to have him, but I think they may have to even try to make a move and trade up to get him. Same for Brooklyn. Pelicans and Nets are the two teams I could see really trying to trade into the top five."- Scout
