first draft poll as of May 13
assuming both Cooper and Harper are gone when we pick at number four. As of May 13th where is everyone leaning? I'll leave this poll open for 5 days. We can do another one maybe first week of June.

jk lol
I picked other and went with Sorber if the foot checks out ok.
Ace is a bust. You can find a shooter (tre) in free agency. You can find a athletic guard (vj) in free agency. Hard to find a really good 6'10'' guy in free agency.

After reading over the athletic mock of players in our range and seeing some of the highlights Braggins posted, Edgecomb is my early favorite.

Sorber is literally bigger than Queen. So much for that narrative.

In the event that VJ goes 3rd, Queen and Johnson are the next most attractive prospects at this point.

GoBobs, what do you like about Sorbers over Queen?

Sorber looks really comfortable putting the ball on the floor. He knows how to use is body to seal a smaller guy. He plays with his head up. No doubt he can play out of the short roll on offense.
On defense he is really good. Has the body to be a bigger Draymond Green. Great stock number which is one of the most reliable metrics. Probably the best chance of being a two way difference maker outside of Flagg.

Queen per 40
1.3 steals 1.4 blk
Sorber per 40
1.9 stl 2.6 blk
Everything else is pretty close. The scoring is pretty close in both volume and efficiencey. The rebounding is close. Also Sorber is s physical beast and we need that.

Re: first draft poll as of May 13
I hadn't looked into him since I wasn't seeing him in our projected range, so I appreciate you sharing the insight. Last year's team definitely got bullied inside, so if Sorbers can help with that, definitely would be a plus. Queen looked smooth on offense but I don't remember him sticking out as a difference maker defensively.
Am I correct in assuming you think Sorbers is more developed/naturally skilled than Malauch? He's the other big with size I'm seeing, so figure it makes sense to get a read on that atm.

Oh yeah, both Sorber and Queen are way more skilled than Malauch. The story on Malauch is that he hasn't been playing basketball that long so he is going to be a lot less experienced than those other guys.
Malauch is likely limited to only being a lob finisher on offense. He is likely 2 years away from being 2 years away type guy.

Sorber is also a year younger than Queen.

That's why I picked Queen. But we could probably trade back and get him.

Maluach is the one pick which would make me lose all confidence in Jeff Peterson

Re: first draft poll as of May 13
Holy Moly, board turned into draft central and information overload overnight haha...
I am still gathering information this week at the combine before really dying on any hills. Yesterdays measurements were great, but also would like to see some of the athletic testing today before I nail down "my guys".

This Thread was really just meant to vote and if you voted other to include who you voted for. Let's try to keep the general draft chat in the general thread and a specific player chat and the specific player threads. That way we're not bleeding into six different draft discussion threads.

Re: first draft poll as of May 13
I think as things sit today 5/15, my board for the Hornets is probably.
1. Ace
2. Tre
3. VJ
4. Fears
Very fluid. Ace and Fears are more home run swings as superstar upside imo. Tre and VJ are safer options.
Ace- can be the big forward that shoots it well, can defend with his athleticism and length but also still offers the midrange game and superstar qualities if he puts it all together.
Tre- Very safe, should be a really good shooter in the league, really good scorer. I think Buddy Hield but bigger and a bit more of an alpha attitude.
VJ- Real pro. Great attitude. I think at very least he is a guy that will get better and find a way. Should be a good 2 guard defender and solid scorer.
Fears- Might be a whiff, some holes in his game as an 18 yr old, but elite quickness, elite handle, good feel for the game and has shown takeover ability.

Basically where I'm at with the dividing line between those top three far narrower than that between VJ and Fears.
