Re: Picks 33 and 34 Prospect Discussion
Yeah nowhere near enough discussion on these picks. We will get a good player at 4 but the way you really build a champion is hitting on your seconds and getting valuable role players. Our depth this year was pathetic, we had the worst bench in the NBA by far. We need bodies.
I like Hansen Yang a lot. Think he’s worth a swing.
One of these players needs to be a versatile defender. I’d love to see Penda if he’s available. Lendeborg is great too.

Even if the team ends up taking Edgecombe at 4 I think they should double up on perimeter defense and draft Miles Byrd as well. He reminds me of Matt Barnes, I think he'll have a long career in the league.

I'll research our non-top 5 picks after we draft them, I'm too out of the loop at this point.

Re: Picks 33 and 34 Prospect Discussion
Maxime Reynaud has the makings of a highly talented mobile 7ft NBA stretch 4 who will also be able to play minutes against less physical 5s.
He reminds me of a cross between L. Markkanan and Luke Kornet.
In addition to being skilled having tremendous remaining upside, he's also highly professional and one of the most thoughtful interview subjects you'll find..
Dominated with a 20 point outing during the first draft scrimmage afterwhich his agent shut him down... Was a college player of the year candidate and someone we should take a strong look at if he's still on the board.

Re: Picks 33 and 34 Prospect Discussion
I would expect at least 10-12 of these guys to already have been drafted by the time we pick, but this would be the group and I would catch the falling knife. Rather than selling myself on taking a guy that is 100% going to be there like a Broom or Kam Jones.

Re: Picks 33 and 34 Prospect Discussion
I would try to fill at least 3 of these boxes with the two selections
x - Ready to contribute day 1
x - Development piece
x - Big Man
x - Perimeter Defender
So 2 combos for example would be
Hansen Yang and Adou Thiero - Thiero plays right away as older wing and Yang is developed in Gleague
Kalkbrenner and Hugo Gonzalez - Kalkbrenner plays right away as center depth and Hugo is developed in Gleague or overseas

I'm guessing at least one of these picks gets traded on draft night.

Re: Picks 33 and 34 Prospect Discussion
Trading our 2 2nds to maybe 25 to draft reynaud would be a smart move. I dojt thibk he lasts after 25 and might actually be gone by then. We need a Center behind Mark. Nurkic ain't much and could be moved and moose is a emergency big thats good to keep around. We need a legit 2nd string C who could possibly start.

Re: Picks 33 and 34 Prospect Discussion
Two trains of thought... Be patient and see what shakes out of the tree and is left standing at 33 and 34 and take multiple swings. or... Identify a player that you really want and do what it takes to move up to get them.

Re: Picks 33 and 34 Prospect Discussion
I would prefer to take 2 swings, over trading up. There isn't really much separating guys 25 from 35 in this draft and the hit rates aren't that different. I the odds favor taking 2 guys and hoping one pans out.
I would only trade up if a top 18 guy fell like Sorber, Essengue or Traore was still around in the late 20s. IMO Raynaud and Kalkbrenner are good players, but also older and chances that work out longterm is just too low to sink 2 assets into them.
I also think with the lack of talent we have on the roster right now, I would use all 3 picks. Worst case you sign too many guys and one of the rookies ends up on a 2way deal.

out of this group Philon, Landebourg, Konan and Pettiford all dangers to withdraw from the draft without a first round promise. If that happens, it would hurt the depth and maybe at that point I would reconsider trading up. However right now knowing I could get 2 guys in the top 35 off this list is just too appealing.

Real talk. I like that if his skillset translates he could be a nice complement to Mark/Diabate. Between those three you could theoretically cover all your bases.

Re: Picks 33 and 34 Prospect Discussion
I'd take upperclassmen. Those seems to be the most likely to hit.
Graham, the Martins, Richards have been our 2nd round hits. Whereas Vernon, Bryce, Thor etc. have been busts.

I think this is because 2nd round picks don't have a long leash. If you are not good right away then it is easy to move on from you and typically older players are ready to contribute earlier even if their ceiling is lower.
I would agree at least 1 pick should be older, but if we have 2 picks I don't mind swinging for upside with one of the picks either.

If we draft Condon and the thread title isn't "Always Brings Protection: The Alex Condon Thread" we should riot.
