Adding former UNC players on expiring contracts to get some eyeballs feels like such a Jordan era move. Mitch would’ve loved this one

White is a deeply flawed and bad defensive player, but he’s a real shooter and a sprinter in transition, has a superstar scoring package at times. He’ll definitely catch fire and win us some quarters here and there. I like the acquisition.

As an expiring not sure if we’ll keep him. Most likely not. But hopefully he does well, he’s the easiest kind of player to root for.

We basically flipped Nurkic who we got a first for and a second or two for Coby White. Thats how you manage a basketball team.

I would be shocked if not, he would need to flame out. I think a more accurate perspective is we wanted to sign him this summer anyway, and now we get to lock him up and not deal with letting pieces go just to create enough space to do it.

It probably depends on what his contract is. Probably a 2yr 20-25m per year deal.

Yeah, gotta be on the shorter side if we are extending Miller and Diabate the year after next and then Kon2

I wanted Ayo more but I like White more than Sexton, so I'll still take it. Hopefully he'll help facilitate a faster pace for the team moving forward.

White won't get $30M, even on a short-term deal. And $25 is starter money. The key to the contract will be if the Horners make the playoffs, and, if so, how deep they go. The greater White contributes to winning, the harder it'll be to let him walk.

We have good cards to play no matter what happens. We can play hard ball in negotiations and resign if the price is right. If he walks we have 2 first round picks to try and find a backup PG. (Brayden Smith)

He’s not worth more than the MLE.

That seems pretty harsh. He averages 18/5/4 on pretty good efficiency. He'll get paid whatever high-end 6th men get.

The thing that separates him from Sexton is that Coby has good size (6'4, almost 6'5) and is a more balanced/versatile offensive player.

MLE sounds perfect for him honestly. or a bigger short term deal if he balls out.

the scenario i'm a little worried about is him having a contract year bump for the next couple months and commanding like $25M a year on a long deal because other teams (or we) believe he is a starting PG. Then we have a new Terry situation.

I mean, he is a starting level PG. Last season he averaged 20/4/5 on 45/37/90 and is a high volume 3pt shooter. Last season post All-Star break he averaged 25pts on 50/37/91 splits.

With Melo we need to have a starting level backup for when Melo is injured or rested. We can't find a high-level backup PG and then get cheap when they want to be paid.

And unlike Terry and Sexton, Coby has SG size. This isn't another one of our small combo guards.

Im really hoping we can sign him in the offseason. I think this is a brilliant move for us he we can lock him up. I have no problem throwing terry money at him.

This move makes me actually feel the buzz in buzz city. Damn i hope we resign him. It should be our number 1 priority.

Rating this trade:

if we sign him to a contract less than $17m AAV - A

if we sign him to a contract between $18-20m AAV - B

if we sign him to a contract above $20m AAV or lose him for nothing - D+

Unless White somehow causes injuries to our big 3, I don’t see how this could end up a D.

He needs a hair cut though.
