Finally went and drafted a back-up point guard.

Dude just gets buckets.

He’s definitely not 6’3, but he fills a need. Seems like we’ve been trying to get a pure backup PG for forever.

Sophomore but looks like he was young for his class. Just turned 20 a couple months ago. He has a younger draft age than Brandon Miller did.

I like the player but there is no way you can play a guard rotation of LaMelo/Kon/Anderson/White. White will probably have to be traded eventually if CA pans out.

Well he certainly adds to our established identity — fits in perfectly, really, by taking a million pull up 3s, having zero path to getting in the paint, and getting bullied on defense due to lacking size and athleticism.

He is athletically limited and it shows up in everything he does. He is one of the worst isolation drivers at the PG position to ever make the NBA. Everything he did at the college level is a PnR. He essentially does not touch paint more than 4 or 5 times a half, he just does the same PnR routine of pick, get cut off on driving angles due to lacking athleticism, and then either pass or shoot a pull-up jumper.

And look - he’s GREAT at that one skill of pull-up 3 point shooting out of the PnR, and makes a lot of them. But that’s about all he does at a high level.

He’s the best shooter in the draft in my opinion. Also a high level playmaker and still young. Yeah size is an issue, but i think it’s a solid pick.

I also think Coby won’t be a Hornet next season. Unfortunately.

I liked him at first as he seemed like a true point guard with smarts and skill set, the shooting was a bonus.

I expect he will spend a fair bit of time in the g league next season but i like how he can run a team

Here is KOC’s interview with Christian Anderson. Listen to the whole thing, worth it to get a sense of this guy’s head and heart. I might have taken Carr at 18, was between both, but have to trust the Hornets saw what they wanted in him. There were a lot of good talents there for the taking,

Seems like a good dude with a good attitude but so was KJ. Hopefully he is way better at basketball. He has the Hornets DNA anyway.

Interesting to hear his growth plates haven't fused yet, remember Dyson Daniels coming over for Overtime Select as a skinny 6'4ish guy then ending up looking like young Kawhi on draft night. Not expecting that kind of spurt for CA but there's hope he's not done growing yet, read his wingspan was just over 6'4" two years ago but was up to 6'6" at the combine.

He actually has good touch on his layups, just needs to get stronger to get into the paint more. Adding a little more size will help that as well as his passing and defense.

Looking at his profile and its easy to make a BPA case for him. I think the later you get in the draft the more you have to prioritize fit and having a development path for guys, but at 18 in a draft this good I think highly prioritizing BPA is still a good way to go.

I do worry though about his path to developing and helping this team. On one hand, his strengths line up perfectly with what the team is trying to do, but the team doesn't really need much help in those areas and his weaknesses are the exact weaknesses where they need help (especially at guard).

Seems like he will be quite bad defensively due to his size, so that creates an issue with playing him with any of the teams other guards. Pairing him with Coby on the second unit seems like a complete disaster defensively. Kon and LaMelo at least have some size, so that helps, but its still going to be rough as hell on defense pairing him with either of those guys. Having your guard rotation be entirely made up of guys who can't defend and don't pressure the rim seems less than ideal, especially when they aren't really making up the defense or rim pressure at other positions. You can get away with this kind of thing more in the regular season, but its still an issue and can become a massive problem in the playoffs.

The play might be to sign and trade Coby and try to find a guard with some size/defense/athleticism that can compliment the other LaMelo/Kon/Anderson and sort of "tie the room together" with the guard rotation.

I think on draft night fans want to imagine their teams drafted the next great star, even if thats statistically unlikely. Someone like Hannes can be imagined as developing into some kind of Dirk/Jokic hybrid even though that'll never happen. The issue with someone like Anderson is that hes a high floor, low ceiling kind of guy who is probably, best case scenario, an instant offense backup PG kind of player due to size limitations. Hard to really see him being able to even be a starter at his current size, although the fact he may still be growing is an intriguing tidbit.

Having said that, the two things that clearly plagued this team last season were a lack of quality bigs and no true backup PG and we've at least attempted to address each of those needs so I'm cautiously optimistic.
