2008 International Prospects

The majority of the teams in the NBA have an international player that is either a star on their team or a very important role player. Washingon, Portland, Boston, Atlanta and Detroit are the only good teams excluded from this majority. Based on our draft history of taking "proven college stars" I highly doubt we'll give any of these guys a look in the upcoming draft, but I got bored and thought it would be fun discussing which of these guys could potentially really help out. Without further ado...

CENTERS
Nathan Jawai (Australia) 21 years old 6

I kinda like to think of Ammo as our International type player, but I think getting one of the combo guards or a big that fits would go a long way.

Playmaker solutions: Tripkovic/Dragic/Kalnietis

Ability to play alongside Okafor/Mohammed: Ibaka/Zabelin/Pekovic/Tomic/Ajinca

We're in the lottery and no one in our range fills a position so we go BPA: Batum then Gallinari

Yea, this year's draft potentials. I removed some guys I thought would be terrible fits (Paja Samaradziski for example)

I saw Jawai a couple of times when I was back home in Dec. One time was the All Star game which he totally dominated - but like I said it was an All Star game so we can't base too much on that.

He's a big unit carrying some excess baby fat, but he's super strong, is a soild rebounder and who loves to throw down power jams. He's a long way from being defined but seems to have some good smarts.

From what I have been reading about the Ibaka kid - if he could ever live up to the hype he'd be a stud and almost perfectly fit what we'd need at the 4 (providing EO50 is at the 5).
