NCAA Prospect thread

Post#1 » by BigSlam » Tue Feb 19, 2008 2:15 am

Thought I would start a thread and sticky it to discuss games in progress, game results and prospects in general.

Watching Texas Vs Texas A&M.

I've seen DeAndre Jordan about 6 times and he goes baseline a LOT and often gets himself into trouble a lot.

Joseph Jones is only a year older than Deandre?

Two years I think. Jones is 86 and Jordan 88.

I'm really not very impressed with Jordan at all. In saying that, if we are picking #10 and he's on the board, I'd take him.

Oh ok.

Still selecting at 10: Augustin and Jordan are both on the board. Bobcats make no moves before or after the deadline, which do you take?

DJ.

I think he would fill a need more than Jordan and provide results a LOT quicker than Jordan and we don't really have the luxury to wait.

What would you do?

See that little hesitation dribble and fade away by DJ? Man we could use that!!

If the kid was 2 inches taller we'd be talking about him going #1.

I really like him a lot.

Drafting #10 and DJ is gone: Jordan, Thabeet and Hibbert are on the board. What order are they in on your board?

Not increasing the rereadability of this page of the thread, but ditto to everything you just said.

Probably Doc 1st based on known commodity status, Jordan based on potential and then Thabeet. I like Brook Lopez too though, he might get consideration over Jordan/Thabs.

I watched Lopez against Arizona the other day for the 1st time. Not bad. Nice post moves but very robotic. I don't think he's a very quick thinker. Once he decides he's turning to the right, nothing is stopping him from doing it. He doesn't seem to have a "plan B" after he starts his motion. Does that make sense?

Also, not a good passer. In fact, I'd go as far as to say he's a bit of a black hole. But again, I've only seen him once so I'll reserve judgement.

I've watched Blake Griffin about 4 times. There's a kid I like!!

Yea, I don't get many Cardinal games so it's mostly from what I read/highlights until tourney time. Saw Blake play once and was impressed.

Lopez does appear mechanical and his post moves sometimes look rehersed. However, he is an effective center with an offensive game and he is light years ahead of Jordan in that respect. Aside from Beasley, I'd say he's the top Big in the draft.

Has anyone seen Donte Greene? Could he be a good fit for our front court (Crash-?-Mek)?

I've seen him play 3 or 4 times because the 'Cuse is always on tele, but I don't know how good of a fit he is for our needs because he replicates what Crash does.

That said, if our pick comes around and he's on the board along with two less talented players that are a fit need wise, we'd be foolish to not select him because we desperately need someone with superstar potential.

His comparison on nbadraft.net is Rashard Lewis/ Marvin Williams. I don't know him, just youtube clips. He's listed as No.7 there (which is where 'we are picking right now') so I wondered how much he is an option (there are not many pure pfs in lottery area - but again who knows who will declare).

Like Walt, I have watched Greene about 4 or 5 times. The first few times I watched him I really thought there was a spot for him on our roster - but the more I watched him the less I thought he would fit in.

He's never seen a shot he doesn't like - and he sees a LOT of shots. He has no post offense at all and instead seems content to stand on the outside and jack up 3's. I thought he might be able to play the 4 but I think he is strictly a 3.

His 1st, 2nd and 3rd instinct is to shoot and after he's exhusted all of those options, he'll jack up another shot.

I think I'd pass.

I watched the UCLA Vs Oregon game today to dial in on Love and Collison.

Collison looked pretty good. Loved his length and D and the way he leaked out on the break. Prefer DJ though as he seems to set up others better.

Love I think is this years Ammo. He looks great in college and plays really good fundamental ball, but I think his weaknesses will be seriously exposed in the NBA.
