If two things happen.......
If the Bobcats get lucky (they are due for some luck in the draft) and draft Beasley and then hire Larry Brown how good can we be?
Felton/another PG

Wallace/Morrison/Dudley

Sounds great, if he actually does manage to score. He's an unbelievable talent, fits into one of our two positions of need, and I have no qualms about taking him #1 overall.
Rose, on the other hand, screams "combo guard" not a true "playmaking" PG. He's getting less than 4.5 assists per game, plus 3 turnovers a game, which is pretty terrible when compared to most of the current NBA star PGs' college stats. He's got great athleticism, and very good size for a PG, good handle, and a decent jump shot. I just think he might be a taller Felton, rather than Jason Kidd.
That said, I like him much better than anyone who will go #2-6 or so, and it's still very possible that he could be good enough that even if he isn't "pass-first" he's good enough to take this team to another level. Draft Express says Baron Davis... which would be awesome.

I want Larry Brown as well... he's a significant upgrade over Vincent, and he will teach the game well. He got Iverson + a bunch of bodies to the finals, and won championships with the Pistons. Can't say that they've won since he left, and our team really is similar to that team. No superstars, but 5 very good players on the floor. We need Brown to teach Felton how to play the point. And we need actual plays.
Hopefully Okafor comes off of his "max-player" stance, and signs a long term deal for reasonable money. If we get lucky, we draft Beasley then to play offense in the post. And NEVER EVER play Crash at the 4, for his own safety. I'm concerned for his long-term safety, for his quality of life beyond his basketball years.
Felts/JRich/Crash/Beasley/Okafor or Mohammed
If we don't get lucky, Draft Express has DJ Augustine at the 9 pick. I would try and package Felton + Ammo for a dynamic 4 like Chris Wilcox + a big like Petro or something. They may have to throw in a second rounder or something. Ammo goes back to Washington... maybe he plays better there.
Augustine/JRich/Crash/Wilcox/Okafor or Mohammed
I just don't see ourselves taking Rose in this draft. If we pick at the 7-9 slot, I can see us taking a pg because there is good talent at that spot. But if we are picking at the top, we're taking Beasley.

Plus if I remember correctly, Dumars wanted Darko and Brown wanted Melo. Beasley is compared to Melo sometimes, I guess they can be found similarities, Brown would probably like him.
Augustine as our only pg? Rookie pg? No way. If you want to trade for PF it would be better draft BPA (center if possible) and trade him (even with some throw inn) for dsired PF (if worthy).
7-9 Pg? That's Westbrook for me, Collison or Augustine would be a reach - I still think Augustine wouldbe better in half-court not in our run'n'ghun athletic style.

I'd rather have Jeff Van Gundy but wouldn't mind if LB was the coach. Just get Vincent out of here. Whoever our coach is, must get better play from the point guard spot and on defense, otherwise, we will continue to suck.

I doubt we'll get Beasley, as was said earlier our team never gets the ping pong balls to fall in our favor. But if we end up drafting at 4 or below what does everybody think about Marreese Speights from Florida? I've seen a few of their games and he's a great energy player, the kind of guy who leaves it all out on the floor and routinely out-hustles opponents.
I think he'd be a great addition beside Emeka, especially if we want to reestablish the scrappy reputation our team had up until this season. He's not a great offensive player, unfortunately, but if we can't get Beasley and management decides we don't need another PG that high I think he'd be a solid pick.

welcome to the board..... ive got a lot of college bball to watch before i come to many conclusions about this draft class. after beasley, i dont know. there is part of me that says, go for broke and draft mayo and hope he pans out to be a superstar and not some overhyped punk with trouble around every corner.

His stock has been rising really quickly, he's at 6 on the RealGM mock. The highest I've seen him anywhere else is the early teens though. The RealGM mock was updated recently so that prompted my question.
I'm not sure Mayo would even play here, unfortunately, I think he'd be a good pairing with Felton because he can handle the ball and has respectable passing ability. He's not what I'd call an unselfish player, but if we can get a coach who's willing to ride him about it he has the vision to develop into an above-average passer at the 2. I still like him even though his hype has died down in comparison to Rose/Beasley, there aren't a lot of players with the ability to create their own shot consistently who can also find the open man.
I'm pretty sure he wants to go to a big market, supposedly his entire reason for signing with USC was superior marketing potential, so he might pull a Kobe and refuse to play in NC.

I guess I was saying that if we had the choice between Rose and Beasley, I can't see us picking Rose. I guess I hadn't thought about that scenario where we get the 2-3 pick and Beasley is gone.
I guess if Rose was our best option, we should pick him, but then we should trade Felton. There's too much talent at that pg spot that should be swapped out for a scoring dynamic 4.
