Getting to the Sports Center?

Post#1 » by Laker at Heart » Fri Apr 4, 2008 2:26 pm

I am an spanish guy spending a few days in Roanoke (Virginia) for some training and I purchased a ticket for the Charlotte vs Boston game to fulfill my lifelong dream of attending an NBA game :)

I was wondering what the best way of getting to the sports center would be... is it easy to park there? should I just park downtown and use the Lynx or something like that?

By the way, if any of you has purchased a ticket with Ticketmaster before, do you know if the office or whatever where I can get the actual ticket is close to the sports center?

Thanks everyone.

It is easy to park downtown. I wouldn't park in a parking deck though. Find a meter on the side of the street. (They are free during games by the way) or just pay $5-10 dollars to park about a block or two from the arena.

I believe if you purchased from ticket master you will need to go to the Will Call window and bring your credit card that you purchased your ticket with. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong about this.

Will Call and the ticket booths are on the side of the arena or sports center closest to the tall buildings downtown.

Thanks a lot for the information mate! Will do as you say and try to find a parking spot near the arena.

Yeah, literally its really easy to just drive up to the arena and find a parking spot. You may have to pay $10, but you get in and out really quickly. I was able to get out and onto Billy Graham Parkway like 5-10 minutes after the game ended, and I didn't leave early.

like the guys said... very easy to get to the arena. not much traffic at game time. however, if any game will have a lot of fans it will be boston. the last boston game was a near sell out, so you might want to arrive a tad early, especially since you arent familiar with the area. there are tons of lots close the arena and as chabber suggested, avoid the parking garages if possible. they take forever to get out after the game, whereas the regular parking lots take like 3 minutes to get out. i'm pretty sure chabber is right about the will call. enjoy th game and charlotte. btw... who will you be rooting for? charlotte or boston?

Yeah Ill be arriving early since I come from Roanoke which is like a 3 hour drive from what I heard, and I dont want it to be 3 hours + game + 3 hours straight. Ill probably arrive at around 1 pm and have something to eat and do a bit of tourism.

I have bought a GPS while here in the US, so that will hopefully help me find the arena and move around a bit.

About who Ill be rooting for, well, as you can guess Ive always been a Laker fan (and moreso since the arrival of my fellow spaniard Gasol), but I really dislike Boston, unlike Charlotte which is a team that looks good to me, so Ill be with you guys.

Thanks everyone for the responses, I really appreciate it (it feels great to have some help when youre alone in a foreign country).

Have a nice game and a nice win!

Use the GPS. It is incredible and led me to the exact area. That thing is a life saver in places like Charlotte, where there are so many roads an engineer would get lost.
