Bobcats War Room - 2008 Draft - Pick # 9

Post#1 » by August Us Seazr » Sun Apr 27, 2008 11:05 pm

Statistically, this is the other pick we are most likely to back into, if we don't stay at # 8. So, we have to be prepared for this spot too.

I guess we all have renewed interest in the draft because of the recent demise of former head coach Sam Vincent, and the speculation(???) that Larry Brown will be the new head man. Now we all know that Coach Brown likes more of a veteran team. But all veterans at one time were rookies. And for a draft pick to have "Value" in a trade situation, one must know what can be had with that pick. Which is why we do this exercise!

I know that some want to trade this pick, if it falls outside of the top 2 or 3. I also know how successful the trade for Jason Richardson was last year. I'm not against trading the pick. But I am interested in seeing how our board evaluates the incoming talent. Because some day, someone from this draft class will be the subject of a trade coming INTO Charlotte. I want to be able to say that we did our homework in looking at who would be a good player for us, whether it be now or in a few years. If we don't know who the good ones are, how can we say that we won a trade, or got screwed in a trade?

Oh yeah, names off the board are: Michael Beasley, Derrick Rose, O.J. Mayo, Blake Griffin, Anthony Randolph, Jerryd Bayless, Kevin Love, and Brook Lopez. 5 players who play the 4 or 5, and 3 players who we could plug in at point.

Rant over. Lets vote. Results in 24 hours!

I'm going with D. J. this time. Some might think this is a little early. But I fondly remember the Hornets days with a speedy little guy- Muggsy Bogues! Maybe if D. J. were the draft choice, we might get back to the type of atmosphere where everyone loves the local team.

So he's a little short. He's fast. He's efficient. He hits free throws. He's already used to the color orange. What's not to love?

Claw on, Augustin!

If Eric Gordon is actually available at #9 I'd take him.

Clarification: By D.J., I mean D.J. Augustine the Point Guard, NOT DeAndre Jordan, the Center/Power Forward.

(Dang! 2 flippin' D.J.s!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!@#$)
