Just reading the wiretap and there is an article suggesting that the Timberwolves could possibly off-load one of their second round picks which would either be 31 and 34. Either of these picks would allow the Cats to select a late 1st rounder that has fallen out of the first round.

From the article all McHale is asking for is a similar pick next year.

So, do the Cats do the deal???

I think this needs to be done. A high second rounder in this draft could be great. Im not to sure of the talent around in 2009.

Means we could take a chance on someone with potential and upside with one pick and then use the other for a safer type of pick.

i wouldnt mind using a pick like that to stash a player overseas. i'm not real keen on having 3 rookies in our top 15 next season.

I wouldn't mind using it for a Joey Dorsey, Mario Chalmers, Jamont Gordon, Bill Walker, JR Giddens, DeVon Hardin, etc. However, I see what fatlever is saying.

I just see this as a low risk move which could have large rewards. A 2nd rounder isn't going to cost us much, but what happens if we can steal the next coming of Ryan Gomes or Paul Millsap (whilst not both outstanding, but would be extremely handy on our roster) or a diamond from the rough. I wouldn't mind adding Dorsey and Hardin to the squad for the cost of trading next years 2nd round pick.

I'm with CC. If a guy like Dorsey or Hardin are on the board when that pick rolls around then I would do it.

I'd want a role playing big man who could play back up mins early on in the season though - not a project guy. We already have two of them in Twiggy and Davidson.

anything to gain for bobcats fans in oz is a good thing. according to my crude, on-the-spot, marketing analysis, its the #6 bobcats market behind charlotte, raleigh/chapel hill, greensboro/winston, wilmington, myrtle beach and upstate sc.

Add Jawai to the roster and sign him as a 2nd rounder and the Cats fanbase will improve dramatically. Just selecting him in the 2nd round will make the Cats more popular in Australia.

People here now also keep an eye on the Rockets, purely for selecting Brad Newley last draft. There is good money that Newley will never play for them, but it was big news that he was selected.

It would be nothing like Yao and Yi for China, but it would add a lot of exposure to a country gagging for more NBA action.

The interest that Bogut generates here in Australia is huge considering basketball is a minority sport (AFL, Soccer, Rugby all have greater participation and spectator pulling power), whilst Jawai won't have the same pulling power as a number 1 pick in the draft he will appeal to a lot of people who will take an interest in the Cats and Jawai.

He will also have the entire Aboriginal population of Australia supporting him (along with Patrick Mills).

Great marketing ploy, and Jawai is a great kid with a tonne of potential who I can see playing very well next to a defensive stud like Okafor.

In a recent media interview, Jawai stated he is prepared to miss an Olympic Games to participate in try-outs which tells me that he is committed to this draft and NBA career.

For the sake of a second rounder in 2009 I would give that up right now for Jawai.

I understand they are highlights, but it's hard not to be impressed with the kid...

I also thought Ibaka was only 18.....I would have picked him in the mock draft..(maybe)

Wouldn't mind getting a 2nd round pick, but I'd like to see the Bobcats add more experienced players (not mid 30s guys). A good example would even be Ryan Gomes.

well, your the appealing asset that you listed are the future 1sts. but why on earth would we trade a 15/11 defensive stud for projects/role players and future picks (that if we are super lucky will pan out to be as good as okafor). it makes no sense.
